  • my car when new

This was emailed to me. It is a picture of my 1960 Flxible Ambulance in 1966. This clip is out of the movie its a mad mad mad world. The car has also been in the fugative and an epesode of the twilight zone that we know of.
The car served Snyder Ambulance & Oxygen Service in Studio City Hollywood! It was on set for any old movies where someone may get hurt or they needed the prop. There is no telling how many famous people got to ride in her.

        Here She is today

A little about the history of this one. She is a 1960 Buick Flxible Premier Ambulance. You can tell a true ambulance by the model # FB63-60. There are only 2 this one and the one owned by Steve Lichtman in the PCS. This one is the most heavily optioned and decorated and has the best history of any procar I have ever heard of. She was ordered by Snyder Ambulance & Oxygen Service which was a Flxible dealer in Van Nuys California. She did not sell off the showroom right away and the companys owner Harry Snyder did something he had never done before. He completely updated his ambulance fllet and put 9 1960 Flxibles into service. He had 6 locations and this one being the most optioned car went to the Studio City Hollywood location. This car was in service from 1960-1974 and was at Studio City most of the time. The car was used as a movie prop when needed and was the on set ambulance incase some one got hurt. If Elvis Presley hurt himself between 60 and 74 the odds are he rode to the hospital in my car. that goes for all celebrities of the period that worked in Hollywood. Harry Snyder had all the 60's repainted in 1969 and this one was agian painted in the wildest paint scheme. That is how she is painted today. In 74 she was retired and taken to Van Nuys and stored for a few years. Harry put all the 60's up for sale and due to the DOT Ambulance regulations that killed procar ambulances he could not sell them. This one was sold to a crane operator in Sacramento and Harry retained another one. 6 were crushed. the one Harry retained was later sold and seen in Arizona in 1980 but has since been destroyed. This one was taken apart and restoration work begun but then sold in the mid 80's to a 60 Buick collector. I bought it from him a few years ago.

As you can see the car was originaly casino cream and Copper Metalic. The car has been seen in the Twilight Zone Nightmare at 20,000 feet with William Shatner. In Its a Mad Mad Mad World filmed in 1966 and a well known movie by any car buff. An episode of Perry Mason, And an episode of The Fugative. People in the PCS keep comming up with films they have seen the car in so I am sure there are more.
