The Lonestar Hearse Association here in Texas along with the Kansas Hearse Association is hosting our 1st Annual "Get Your Kicks On Route 66 Hearse, Hot Rod and Classic Car Cruise & Show", September 20-23, 2007.
The details:
We will be in Joplin, MO on Thursday evening, September 20th with registration and kick-off party including a $5.00 PER SHEET (you're free to buy as many hands as you wish) Poker Run. We will be awarding cash prizes to the TOP THREE winning hands and the remainder of the proceeds from the Poker Run will go to support the museum at Schifferdecker Park.

We were unable to get one as a host hotel, but did get discounted rates at several. We do have an agreement with the KOA - Joplin, MO location on I-44 (Exit 4 on I-44). Anyone who calls to make reservations there and we get 6 or more parties (they have tent, RV and Kabins) will get an additional 10% off their reservation when they mention the "Route 66 Hearse Cruise".
We will officially start the Cruise at 9:15AM at the Flying J Truckstop located at 11570 Highway FF (is at Highway FF and US Hwy 71). We will be meeting there for breakfast starting at 6:30 AM (for you early risers) and then loading up and head down the road. We will travel past the apartment Bonnie and Clyde had in Joplin and then onto Route 66 to Kansas and their 13 miles.
Plans are to make Claremore, OK around Noon on Friday, September 21st and will converge on the J. M. Davis Arms and Historical Museum and will be treated to a tour there. Kim and the staff will also be giving away prizes to various lucky Cruisers. At some point during the stop in Claremore, Cruisers are free to grand some lunch before heading over to the Will Roger's Memorial where we will be greeted by their Director Steve and staff member Sherry for a tour and photo shoot.
We're scheduled to depart Claremore and head to our final destination around 4 in the afternoon and will head to Oklahoma City, OK and our host, Coit's Root Beer Drive-in located ON Route 66 in the SAME location SINCE 1954. Coit's will be offering specials and 10% off your meal when you present your Route 66 Cruise dash plaque. We will have another $5.00 PER SHEET Poker Run and other games for prizes while we're there. Upon arrival in Elk City, OK, Cruisers are encouraged to follow the lead vehicles and meet at the Elk City Convention Center where they will be greeted by the Elk City Police Department who will have the ENTIRE FIVE MILES OF ROUTE 66 CLOSED in order to bring the Cruisers into town and to Ackley Park.
We're also hosting an annual Car Show in Elk City, OK and the City of Elk City is opening their park, Ackley Park for us to host our 20 vehicle class Car Show, including FOUR Hearse and ProCar classes. Ackley Park is part of a 200 acre complex that also home to the "National Route 66 Museum Complex", has 4 museums all in one location. Lucky Cruisers will be greeted by Maxine and her staff. Discount tickets are available when you present the Route 66 Cruise/Car Show dash plaque at the door. Maxine and her staff also have prizes that will be given away to lucky Cruisers throughout the day. We will have food vendors for your eating enjoyment as well as games for both kids and adults. We will be awarding to 1st and 2nd Place as well as "Mayor's/City's Choice, Best Interior, Best Paint, People's Choice and Best of Show to any judged class, plus Largest Group/Club Participation and Farthest Distance Traveled, Most Unique Hearse or ProCar, Most Unique Hot Rod or Classic Car and Best Display" awards to anyone registered. We will also award trophies for various games for kids and adults. A 50/50 pot will be wandering around as well.
Elk City is also opening all of their attractions at Ackley Park including the "Elk City Centennial Carousel" which is also the largest hand carved wooden carousel in the world along with their mini-golf and mini-train. These are all free, but are donation based for operating costs.
The Car Show will be held from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM with awards being presented about 3:00PM. For those wishing to stay in Elk City overnight, we are still working with the Elk City Convention and Visitor Bureau for discounted rates. They will also be opening up special for us on Sunday morning, September 23rd for our final get together, breakfast (breakfast buffet for $7.00 per person) and our final awards and Grand Prize Giveaway.
