alot of the times those lights are just on mysteriously remember that 83 i had black n gold with the funky deck lid kit it had an engine light on we ran diagnostics on it 4 times and came up with nothing everytime. never did figure out why that light was on.
old gm's are notorious ofr those lights and no cause and the ol co0nstant running blower motor.

The ALCL/ALDL is located under the dashboard, just below the instrument pannel and to the left of the center console. Connect a jumper wire between terminals A and B to enter the diagnostic mode.
If you want the rest of the info on how to read the codes without going to Auto Zone as well as the trouble code list, let me know and I'll scan and email it to you.

There are really only about three or four pins that you need. You could probably make your own connector. Do a search for ALDL. Yours will be 160 baud ODB1.

First make sure that it's really not under the dash. Get up there with a flashlight. If it's really not, the computer on most of the 81's was behind the passenger's kick panel, so you might want to take it off and look in there.

check engine light, cant find the computer plug
81 superior 3 way carbed
heres the deal. picked up justgrims old ride, had a little bit of a rough idle not bad. i put in new dash speakers and decided to check my idiot lights to make sure all the bulbs worked. well come to find out the check engine light was blown. once replaced it wont go off. i tried replacing the oxygen sensor and that didnt work. he said it had a tune up last November but im gonna do another one friday just cuz. i cant find the plug to have autozone read the error either. where is it? ive looked all under the dash and under the hood with no luckand this engine light is pissing me off severely
