  • what some poor bastard who looks just like me has been working on lately

I finished the fab work on my control arms to put Miata spindles and vented discs under the front of my DeLorean.

Here is where I started with regards to initial alignment measurements and the like:

and here's where I ended up:

So far so good. I've put several hundred miles on the new pieces and I'm very happy with the results. In addition to the better performance with regards to fade and the like, I can now get pads and rotors at just about any local parts house.

Arguably, testing ended abruptly when I stumbled across this car and bought it last week:

Swapped LS1/T56 with 4.10 gears and some Mickey Thompson drag radials out back. Downright festive mobile to be honest but I'm hoping to have a set of normal tires under it before my trip to Deal's Gap next weekend. As it is the car just needs brightening with regards to cosmetics, A/C, and probably some suspension updates but otherwise it is in fairly decent shape and, while I've never flown one, I imagine it's like driving a fighter jet on the street.

Anyway, nothing hearse related just stuff I thought someone might find interesting.

    Nice work.
But does it make time travel easier? or more difficult?

Great looking welds. I'm along ways away from that.

Piloted Deal's Gap before? I have a few times, most memorably hanging off my old all original faro basso Ape like a sidehack monkey while lifting wheels.

Location puts you less than an hour from Maggie Valley. You won't regret making a stop at http://www.wheelsthroughtime.com/ - especially because travel route may put you right past it.

Have fun on the Dragon, be safe, and don't get caught speeding!

They don't actually do 88mph unless they're towed so it isn't really something to fret over.

Thanks Pyro. I appreciate the kind words.

I have run the Tail of the Dragon a number of times. For a few years it seemed like I was spending all of my vacation time up there. To date, I've only stuffed one car. Rolled an MR2 Spyder up there ten years ago. Crawled out, flipped it back over, pulled off the parts I no longer needed, did a quick alignment on the side of the road so I could get back to the lodge and after a jackstands/string alignment I drove the car back home. That turned out to be an expensive trip but I still had a good time. I generally pick up highway 28 around Seneca, SC and ride all the way to 129. With the DeLorean, I don't push on the car all that much but if I go up there on a weekend it is just to visit these days. If I want to pedal hard and feel out a car, I'll go up on a Wednesday.

Over the years I've gotten a few pictures from Killboy (Darryl) as well. This one is my favorite:

I imagine that DeLorian owners feel about the Back to the Future movies as us hearse owners feel about Ghostbusters. Some hate them while most just want to glue a bunch of shit to the back half of the car.

I will admit the ground effects are a nice touch.

Most like the movie and often pay homage to it with their ride but don't like the full on replicas. That said, check these wheel covers out:

You can't drive the car with them on but they do look pretty bad ass parked at a show.

edit - a little better shot without so much overexposure on the blue lights and you can see the real tires:
