  • I'm surprised I haven't killed anybody yet.

I quit smoking cold turkey two days ago. Anybody who knows me knows that nicotine is my "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" filter. So far I've told off the ex roomate and the mother in law. This is looking like its going to be fun.

      Good Luck
Cold Turkey is how I quit, some ten years ago. Way back when a pack of smokes was under 2 dollars. I remeber sayin the next time they raise the freakin price I'll quit. They did and so did I

Quitting is a stressful pain in the ass, but totally worth it. Nikki and I have been quit for 3.5 years now and there is no way possible you could get me to start back again.

A buddy of mine recently quit and he said that the thing that helped him the most was just saying 'I'm not a smoker'. The gum and the patch only give you an escape route to fail and something to blame if it doesn't work - cold turkey is the only way to do it in my opinion.

Good luck and keep your head on straight.

I quit in 1989 because I was skiing, and almost immediately, I could go twice as far without stopping. I still smoked pot for a while, but that's just a few hits (one if it's good) and you don't need more for hours. It doesn't continuously deprive your cells of oxygen the way that a cigarette habit does. I guess I was lucky because I never got addicted to cigarettes.

Giving up tobacco is really hard for some people, easy for others, but it will fuck up your body, so you should. I talked to a doctor who said that long-term smokers have so much cell damage, and they won't quit until they can't get the cigarette to their lips anymore. There's that, heart damage, bone decay, and maybe lung cancer. Getting old gives you enough problems without adding tobacco use.

Congrats and good luck on quitting smoking. One of our neighbors said that he took Chantix (the new smoking cessation aid made by Pfizer) for a while, and with great results, but his dreams got so disturbing he had to stop.
