I tip a lot at places I frequent, but if it's shitty service, 15%.

As long as the service is good 20%+
But if the service sucks so does the tip.

We were at Longhorns one night and the bill was around $80, but the service sucked so bad I wanted to scream. So for a tip we left $4, the first stuck to a plate with steak juices and mashed potatoes, and the other 3 stuck to the first each with a different gooey food substance.

I have also just left a written tip for bad service before like this:

Tip- Don't piss off the customer

that kind really lets them know how bad they suck.
There is also the 1 penny thing, if you leave just 1 miserable penny as a tip it really says HEY YOU FUCKING SUCKED AS A SERVER!

I tip based on service quality. I don't expect "above and beyond" service, because honestly it's annoying more than anything. But I also know most of them are unhappy with their jobs. I never have and never will work in food service, nor will I ever work retail. I hate people too much.

I drink a lot of water, if the service person can't keep up with my refill regiment, fuck the tip. If a server comes to take your order, drops off the food (or someone else), and drops off the bill without anything in between - they deserve whatever 2$/hour they get.
