  • What do/did you want to be when you grow/grew up?

I know 'grow up' is a very loose term and doesn't necessarily apply to too many around here, but are you doing what you set out in life to do?

Do you like what you do?

    Is it fruitful and rewarding?

    Check this out (stolen from a few livejournals);

    1. Go to http://www.careercruising.com/

Rewarding job? - Work DES, waste water treatment. Trying to keep my little part of the world clean & safe. Yes, rewarding

Like job? - Jobs fine, but it's the a$$holes I work with that keeps the job 'intresting' (note inside joke where my product also comes from)

Lifes goals met? Built my first coffin bed @ 13 years old - now at 50 I finally got my hearse - GOALS MET !!!
(edited: if you mean on the job - 5 years till retire !!! - nuf said)

Hey! I did that once. I worked at a wastewater reclamation center for about a week cutting 12" abs pipe from a failed pumping project. Crazy.

How do they take to you pulling up in a hearse?

The worst job I've ever had lasted one day, and I know I'm going to heaven now, because I've been to hell. This job was too nasty to make it onto the "Dirty Jobs" show.

I was a plumber's assistant, and we had replace all of the drain pipe under a house. Unfortunately, this woman had waited about 30 years too long to get the job done. There was a crawl space of about 18" underneath the house, mostly mud from the drains.

OK, that doesn't sound too bad, put on the thick coveralls, cut out the pipe and put new pipe in, but she had been pouring Drano down the drain for 30 years, turning the mud into a burning, bubbling mess. If you touched that stuff, and it was impossible not to in most places, it burned like battery acid. Then once we got the pipe in, I was so glad to be done, and I found out that we had to go back in with bricks and blocks and graduate the fall of the pipe so that it didn't build up goobers anywhere.

Fuck that job. I would starve before I would do it again.

Are you doing what you set out in life to do? Sorta, it is a necessary step to get by till the kid is out of the house and I can Drive all around the country for a living. No not a truck driver. I found a job delivering Travel Trailers that will let me do what I was doing when I was delivering cars, without the drawback of having to take greyhound. That is my ultimate goal. To see the country in my own vehicle, and spending every minute with the wife.

Do you like what you do? Yes

Is it fruitful and rewarding? Yes

That sucks Denise, and I know exactly what you mean, I had a pipe burst in my old house when it was under contract to be sold. It was vacant, as we had already moved into the new place, so the water was flowing for the better part of a week. I had to go under there to set up a sump pump and it ran all day, then I had to spread out all new vapor barrier in every nook and cranny of the place. Rotten, just rotten. But knowing what kind of money plumbers make, I would totally do it if I could. Had I known way back when, I would have blown off college for trade school and by now would have a crew to do the dirty work. Hell, it's all new construction in Atl anyway, I probably would never have to plumb a crawlspace at all...

Life turned out pretty good. No complaints. I get to do what I want to do, when I want to do it, and the only actions I have to answer for are my own. I know I will probably want to do more later, hell, maybe even sooner. I dunno. But I get miserable and mean when I don't have anything productive to do with my time. Well, most of the time.lol.

I'm an RN, so that was pretty spot on. I tried not to answer the questions based on what I do already, but you know how the brain makes you bias your answers...
