  • High Top?

Being rather new to hearse owning, I'm still getting terms straightened out...
I hear "High Top" now & then, as if it was a special feature. While 90% of hearse's I've seen have higher tops than a regular car, aren't they all high tops?

My '86 Eureka stands a good foot over my wifes limo. You can JUST touch the headliner if sitting in the front seat... even the doors themselves have been extended about 6" (the whole window frame - not just an extention. The glass won't even roll all the way down - too big for door).

    Sound special?....True High Top?

A high top has an even higher roofline than the normal coaches, and were pretty much only reserved for use with actual
"emergency" type ambulances. Basicallt its a roof made of (usually) fiberglass, with a unck of purdy lights in them.

OK... Fiberglass roof, Yes. Zipper in headliner for 'bubble' light, yes. No other lights outside. Divider glass behind driver. No jump seat in back - full loading bed. Doesn't really look "dual" use.

A guy at one of the car shows (said he's a Funeral Director) commented saying "Man, that's a REAL hearse" - what ever that ment.

I dunno. When I had mine emissions tested last year, the kid asked if it was a real hearse. What a stupid question. I told him, no, he's just imagining it.

The "high top" designation is usually for straight ambulances, referring to the the rear paitient section. They had 48 inch and 52 inch high top models referring to the room in the back emergency personell had to work with.

Your 86 Eureka is a Commercial glass coach. The windshield is much taller on your coach than that of a traditional 86 GM vehicle. Be careful, that also means its sometimes hard to get replacement windshields for in the event of breakage.

Yeah, point it with the back end toward the vandals. If you can't find the back window, you can replace it with Lexan (tm), but I paid $881 for my commercial glass two years ago.

I hear you about the windshield - this thing is almost as big as the picture window in my house!!! Had a broken w/s in a limo once from a stone - lucky it was a factory replacement... now I know to stay WAY back from any trucks.
As for vandals, If the hearse is out of the garage, I'm not more than 20' away (read some of the horror stories here). I actually keep the front pointed at them... if they even LOOK like they are up to no good - they'll find themselves UNDER the car !!!

                          Sheesh.

Mine was cracked when I bought the coach. Over $200 of the replacement cost was for shipping.

I think that's what I meant to say.
