Well we just got back from a week long trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and then stayed a few days to do some visiting and shopping.
The last time we were in New Orleans was Halloween of 2006 and things were still looking very bad down there. I was very surprised on this visit how much is really back. I'm not saying everything is back to pre-Katrina, but most FEMA trailers are gone and instead of seeing one or two houses on a block that folks were back in it was the opposite.
The East side of New Orleans still looks like hell...I would have to say about 50% of folks are back there, but that area was the ghetto before the storm. I didn't go to the 9th ward, but hell the media and democrats go there enough and report that I don't need to go and see. Not to get on a political box, but these areas of town that pre-katrina were government supported and now they expect the same for re-building.
This Mardi Gras was the first back to normal for New Orleans. All of the parades are now back to their normal routes. The news reported that the crowds are back to normal. Funny it was actually measured by the clean up. They reported that the amount of garbage/trash picked up was the norm!!!!
Anyways, we had a really great time and I encourage everyone to make a trip down there you won't be disappointed at all! We will have pics later from the parades....I'm still unpacking.
