  • FYI on emissions and insurance

In many states (AZ included) if you car is insured as a "collector car" and DMV has the idea that it is not your daily driver (who would use an old hearse as a daily driver wink wink), you do NOT need to have it emissioned.

Here is a link to a provider of that type of insurance. My quote was only $468 a year.

Good thing about being an okie no inspection! Can't complain about insurance much either, 100 bucks a month for 4 vehicles.

I appreciate the information, but, actually, that seems like a buttfuck to me, designed to get more old cars off of the road. It used to be that 1966 and older cars were exempt from testing, and since they passed that law, the renewal now states that ALL cars have to be inspected. Besides, I pay no insurance at all for the 5th car with Allstate, so I don't have to pay the collector car insurance. My hearse passes with about 1/5th the numbers that are allowed anyway, because I have the same machine here, and I set it up that way. I always surprise the hell out of them. The Chrysler made numbers less than 1/4 what was allowed, even with the original cat and some performance mods, compression in the 10's and high performance cam. You just have to set up your carb correctly and fix all of your vacuum leaks.

Really, though, thanks for the info. I wish we had a rolling exemption of 25 years or so...I don't think that there are too many 32-year-old cars on the road like mine, but our government is bunch of assholes.

My parents (up to high school) and grandparents (still) live in Oklahoma, and I love the place. One time when we were kids, we grabbed a big box of rose rocks, and took them back to Illinois and sold them for $2 each. That was a lot of money for a kid back then.

I also love Texas. I lived in Galveston for a year, and in Dallas most of my adult life.
