  • Leslie Nielsen

I was just thumbing through the TV listings when I saw that the original Poseidon Adventure was on. I was going to skip it until I saw that Leslie Nielsen was the captain. When I saw him up on the deck trying to be serious, I just rolled. Then there was the routine where Ernest Borgnine didn't know what to do with a suppository. I didn't realize that this movies was funny...at least the first part.

He spent the majority of his early career doing serious films. Sci-fi and horror too.

In fact he was the killer in the original "Prom Night"

Wasn't he in Corman's credits early on?

        Which of Corman's films?

He was also the captain of the ship in Forbidden Planet, when he was much younger. I saw him in an interview, and he said that although he started out playing serious parts, as he got older, people would laugh at anything he said. To me, it's impossible to take him seriously, even in his older films. There is something goofy about his voice and facial expressions. When the movie Airplane was filmed, he understood the concept immediately, and I think he's played in every ZAZ film since. I don't remember whether or not he played in Kentucky Fried Movie.
