  • DVD connectors

I bought a DVD player that plays Blu-ray and Hi-Def, and defines conventional disks up to about 700. The thing is, it has a 1080p connector on that back, kind of U-shaped, that I've nevev seen before. The instructions says that I only need it for 1080p. not for 1080i or less.

My TV has three composite connectors and two audio plus digital audio and SDVD for DVD's. For cable and satellite, it has all kinds of connectors, 10 or so, I think, but no U-shaped cable for 1080p. The instructions say that if I was to receive hi-def cable TV, I would need a hi-def receiver, but to pick up blu-ray or hi-def, do I need anything special? Do these terms have anything anything to do with 1080i or 1080p? My TV is a Mitsubishi 1080i model. If I broadcast a disk ripped from computer, it appears to letter box much better than 480, maybe 700 or even 1080i.

Please feed me any info that you have, so I don't end up in the mental hospital again!

We just got a 1080 TV, don't know if it's a 1080i or 1080p. But this is what the back looks like and I don't see anything like that....

Tanks to you both. I think that my composite will do 1080i, which is fine. It's hi-def interlaced. I can't even see the difference between 480i and 480p, so 1080p might be a waste for me. My eyes aren't too good anymore. Anyway, you're supposed to be able to find the resolution on the box. There is just something about not playing 720 resolution disks, so I should read the manual again before I buy.
