  • How to fuck up your system for less than $200!

Go with 802.11n. I was getting 56 Mbps, not quite fast enough, so I decided to upgrade to this blazing fast technology. A whole aggravating day later, I am now getting 6.5Mbps, slow enough that the internal network is unusable.

Be sure to rush right out and get this total shit and let me know if it works as well for you.

First off your problem is going wireless which has the benefit of being slower and less secure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network...ption_cracking is a fun read.

Unless you're using a laptop in which case you should have a network switch in each room anyway.

Second, go with gigabit cards/router. I wouldn't network the entire house with it since it is expensive. Just the most used sections of it.

Have they even finallized the n specification yet?

I have the wireless working. n has better range and doesn't drop offline like g was doing, but the speed wasn't what I had hoped for.

Now I'm trying to print from a Vista laptop to an XP box, and I went through the research for the "connection refused", created new ports and all of that junk, and now it talks to the printer, but every print job errs out.

If I had an employee who gave me a fraction of the backtalk that these computers do, he would be out the door, butt-first.

BTW, always snap a print screen and save the image if you're printing from IE. If the printer connection fails, IE will err out and close, and you can never get back that important receipt or whatever.

Might I suggest going to FILE and selecting "Save page as" before doing that then.

Also don't use IE, use Firefox instead.

As far as printer issues go, I never print anything. It's all saved electronically.
