  • Virus Checker

I would like to find a virus checker that I could try out for free. I'm sick of paying money for shit and finding out that it won't even install. Does anyone know of a site? Also, they need to be up front about their update fees.

Screw AVG and anything else with a free, personal, private, etc... version.

Well except for this http://www.clamwin.com/ Open Source is good

Needs more real time detection though but I don't mind scanning everything that comes in.

I tried AVG and it constantly complained if I disabled any part of it, tried to get me to install Yahoo, and put text and pictures all over my browser. I got enough of that sort of thing with the computer, and I still don't have it all removed.

As for the other message, thanks for the reply, but it didn't help me find a virus checker, or maybe I just didn't understand it.

Do most people just not use virus software?

Well it depends. Windows XP has the security center which will nag at you if you don't have a virus scanner installed forcing people to either shut it off or give in and go buy something.

Then you get the people who buy pre-built systems (Compaq/HP, Gateway, Dell, etc...) which these days come with Windows and some form of AV software (usually Norton or McAffee) installed.

Then there are the people who get internet service, which usually offer a trial of either Norton or McAfee with an evaluation period.

Then you get the people who don't install one who think they know best that shouldn't be usinga computer because they're dangerous and then their computer becomes infected and either blows up or sends out thousands of spam e-mails a day as a zombie.

Finally there are those like me who don't run anti-virus software because they know what the hell they're doing and how not to catch a virus. Sure I get one occasionally but I can tell.

Oh yeah, can't forget about the people who use operating systems other than windows. Viruses are virtually non existent and they're pretty damned safe.

Try Avast Antivirus. It's free, you just have to register every so often.

Disabling the balloons in the registry is usually the first thing I do when I gen an XP system.

Lately, I've been doing a lot of my work in paper and pencil, because it's less trouble than the computer.

It's not always a virus at fault. My daughter was given an assignment on memorystick and it crashed her and Tonys computer. Tony said dont touch anything and since he is lost and doesnt even answer email she would have lost her scholarship.\

I put the stick in my computer wich has epcial registry settings that I do and recovered it. There was a desktop.ini file deep into a dir that may have have cause problems on a computer with autorun not properlyu disabled in the registry as I do. That is all the problems I saw. Her teacher said it was her memory stick anbd she would have got a D and lost her scholarship and now will get an A. and another kid has the same problem but this is due tomorow and she might lose everythig. I cant belive how worthless teachers are> Jenny will work late but she will get her grade. Her teacher and father dont care> I guess?

Sorry about my typing, I had to fix up a car for Jenny and then we had a plumbling leak and I injured myself, pain is awful without tons of medicine, Is bad, screen all jumbled up m want to go to sleep but worried about tony disar[earing, I be back chris picturr4u looked good
