I have another idea. Failure is not an option. I want to see her drive off with this thing. I'm off to Blaze metal recycling and the hardware store. I need a 3 foot piece of 1/2 flat stock and a couple of the most serious U bolts I can get my hands on...........

Wow. It sounds to me like you want to have this hearse working more than I do! LoL! I really do appreciate your determination to fix my horribly screwed up hearse. I feel so special! But like I said, it it really is too much trouble, you can buy her (for cheap of course) and just keep her as a "fun" project. Either that or I can just put her on Ebay and say something like "This is the hearse that Ty Cobb, Michael Jackson, Fred Flintsone, ext. was taken to the grave in". I'm also sure I can find some creative pictures to put on that listing as well to make it complete.

No. It's your car. YOU are going to drive it. And enjoy doing it too. We have it figured out. It's not going to be pretty, but it will be very solid, and it won't break. We got the driveshaft and the bearing out, finally. We just need to find a new bearing and housing and finnish cutting( yes I said cutting) the old shit out. To get the stuff out we ended up having to dismantle the center bearing while the bearing and the front driveshaft section was still in the car. I'm sure Kevin will explain the pain in the ass it was in person.........but we are on the downhill slide at least.
Oh. And I love sledge hammers. They make so many impossible things possible. That is all........

I HATE Autozone. You have to stand in line behind José who wants to put a different alternator in his 71 Datsun Honey Bee and wants every alternator in the store spread out on the counter, LaPruitra, who wants them to go out and change her air filter (I would toss in some BBs), and Hollister, who gets his battery checked, it's OK, and then he gets angry and insists that they troubleshoot his electrical system.
It's much better to mail order. I will order from AZ if I have to...partsamerica.com is easier to deal with, but I have had some failures with their Cardone parts...a rebuilt compressor with a bent shaft, and a brake booster that leaked. These were definitely jobs that I didn't want to do over, so I stand on the parking brake to pass my emission test, but I did have to change that compressor, eventually. They're not going to warranty your refrigerant, oil, time, or drier, so I ran it until it blew out the seals. I got a good power steering pump, hoses, and hydraboost unit, except that they didn't know how to get the frangible pushrod disk, so I had to make one out of a prescription bottle top.
I prefer to go with NAPA, when I can afford to. Their parts are made in the US. I bought a brake spring kit from AZ that was made in China, that turned out to have too many of some springs and not enough of another, which is typical of Chinese merchandise. It reminded me of my daughter's bicycle that was packed with two rear wheels and no front wheel in the box.
