I've been going crazy waiting for the results of the MRI scan on my head, although I'm sure that they'll say nothing, like most tests, so I thought I would try burning some DVDs.

They don't burn on a Vista machine.

They don't burn on any of the programs that worked on the XP machine. They don't burn on the program that came with the Vista. I've tried all kinds of media, all of the shit that was working fine before, the single and double layer ones. They say that they're working fine, then when it's done, there's nothing on the disk. Vista wants to format it. Do I have to format a simple freaking disk?

Am I doing something wrong, besides walking into walls, tripping over furniture and talking blurry?

Any ideas for shareware utils to try, maybe? I think I burned a data dvd on Vista once, but never a video.

    God dammit. gunshots

Or maybe it's more hallucinations, but I wish these kids would shoot at each other behind someone else's dumpster. There are one or two shots, then I go outside and no one is around, but my house and car have been shot at four times. There's no one moving out there now, like the neighborhood is deserted. Well, end of rant.

Somebody must know how to burn CDs.

    Forgot to mention something

    These are DL disks.

I am sure that many of you would disagree, but according to this form-letter looking MRI report, there is nothing wrong with my head...except that I still can't burn a disk. It's just the bones in my spine that are slowly tightening around the nerves, like each new version of anything from Microsoft that does more to get on my nerves.

Have they changed the speed of DVD DLs? They used to be 2.4x, and then I found some 4x that would actually burn at 2.4x on the XP box. Unfortunately, I only had a few.

I found a program on the Vista box that will burn at 4x, instead of the 8x that the others are trying to do, and I am trying that now.

When I first tried to burn DVDs on my Sony DL, it had default speeds from 2.4x to 8.0x, I think, but disks rated for higher than 2.4x were hard to find, and setting the burner for 2.4x with the software available would usually burn the first layer OK, and barf on the second one.

Any media recommendations for an HP DL disk drive that is supposed to burn at 8x?

    thanks
