    Staggering.

There are several things wrong with this article.

First of all, where do they come up with this number of a million people killed?

To say that aircraft are not controlled is just total bullshit. First of all, the fuel that they burn is highly refined kerosene, not sludge. The first 707's and DC8's had straight turbojets and they blew smoke...only a fraction of what the earlier piston transports did, but you could see brown trails. Since then, they have had to make one modification after another to please the government, and they are now high-bypass turbofans, maybe cleaner, but I hate them. I could put up with the roaring sound of jets, but those fans are larger than most propellers now, they vibrate like propellers, and they emit a very annoying grinding noise. If they hit a flock of birds, they tend to die. If youre worried about pollution, then why do you drive a car, or ride a bus, take an airline, or a train? I find it hard to believe that everyone who grips about pollution rides around on a bicycle.

This global warming shit has gotten out of hand. Even one of Al Gore's team blew the whistle on it. California is still selling global warming, and when I say selling, I mean it literally. The trucks that pick up the shit that you buy at Wal-mart get close to 10 mpg, even with a big load, because of all of the engine mods. That's fine with me, because we make more money out of mileage, but California prohibits trucks from idling more than five minutes. How does a driver keep warm while he's sleeping, and it's cold? We've already paid for a system that turns the engine on and off automatically to control the cabin temp, but we're not allowed to use it. He can use an electric blanket and hope that the batteries don't die, or buy the one fuel-fired heater that is allowed in California, which is, of course, the most expensive one available. Gee, I wonder why.

Why is it that every time someone mentions global warming, ozone layer, or pollution, there is always a new tax involved? Then people complain about prices going up. I don't mind mods for efficiency, if the numbers crunch and they actually pay for themselves, but most of this stuff is bullshit. I've been to Texas City and LaMarque, where the air is so thick with oil that you can almost pump it into your crankcase, but I didn't see the bodies.

I don't think they mentioned aircraft at all?

But you have to be fair with the data - it is of course going to spun to prove a point, but the reality is that these things burn a gallon of fuel every 40-45 feet!! Some numbers I've seen are that they burn through 220 TONS of fuel a day, or around 86,400 gallons a day to make it across the ocean. And it's not exactly high quality distillate, it's just above asphalt for quality. Spin it any way we want to, it's still a nasty bitch.
