The video tells you part of the story, not all of it. When Arrow Trucking went under, they not only cut off the fuel cards and left truckers stranded, but the owner-ops who had no permanent address and had the paychecks deposited to their card accounts have just lost their bank accounts as well as the equity in their trucks. Arrow has been receiving their truck payments (ours is $450 a week, theirs probably about the same) but not paying them out, so their trucks are being repossessed as quickly as the tow trucks can find them. These guys are stranded in the snow by the side of the road, no money, no place to go, no way to buy fuel, no way to get home. Merry Fucking Christmas.
We have been authorized by Swift and DSL to pick up any stranded Arrow driver. I told Tony that, since I'm still too fucked up to drive, if he finds a decent driver, go ahead and arrange to team him. At least that way, he can pay a share of our expenses, and he'll have a job.
Some drivers are dumping their trailers wherever they are, shredding their manifests, and letting whomever owns the load try to find it, prove that they own it, and bring it in at their own expense. The Arrow offices are completely abandoned, even the security guards. Of course, lawyers are all over it, and hopefully they will leave the execs in the same shape that the drivers are in now, or worse, but my heart bleeds for the drivers and their families. I've seen the airlines do this same thing, and the IRS takes the tool boxes away from the mechanics, so they can no longer work, but I've never been able to stomach it. There is just no excuse.
If you know an Arrow driver, please make a contribution to his family. These people don't want welfare of charity, they just want to go back to work.
