I had a slightly different technique...since everyone knew that I had back problems, I would walk hunched over in pain, and when my boss told me to go home, I would insist on working from home, rather than get behind on my projects. I would log in to the company system via VPN, and hit a different HMC or server now and then, maybe copy a file, do something in between getting drunk and watching movies. The expression, "You don't get paid enough to fuck off", is one of my favorites.
