Dog Quills

I keep discovering more interesting shit about this dog; for instance, when I threw a ball and it went into the pool fence, I asked him, in French, where the ball was, and he picked up a foreleg and pointed.

He also has something that I have never seen since I owned a Queensland Heeler. He has "quill" hairs on his back, and when another dog barks, or something seems threatening, he lowers his head and the hair on his back stands up like a Mohawk.

Is this normal for any of the Terrier family, or could he be part Dingo?

my heeler mix does the mohawk thing (we call her a little razorback when she does it)
and my chow/staffordshire mix has some pretty darn pointy guard hairs down the middle of his back, but my full blood dingo doesn't.

my wolf x dingo doesn't either.
