  • Had some ideas for the site - need feedback.

So the old Dead Ends sites was pretty much something I threw together in an afternoon and never finished (like oh so many other projects). At this point the only thing that the site has that is useful are pictures and some links. So I was thinking one of 2 approaches.

I could create a wordpress site and skin it, and federate the users from DE to the site and allow posting of events and whatnot.

    OR

We could just use the group function on the message board and scrap the individual sites all together.

With the wordpress one I can get pretty creative with some of the more interesting features, but I'm still probably going to rely mostly on the message board for content.

What do you guys think? Should we start using the 'groups' feature more on this site?

I like the groups idea, but centralize it around the others more. Not to mention I like to see what the other groups are doing and comment when appropriate.

Also, bring back the games section. I miss owning everyone's scores (okay I wasn't that great but I was close.)

What do you mean by centralize it around others more?

I'd like to be able to give any hearse club a turn key kinda community and site that they can with as they please. Creating sites is a pain in the ass, so if we can just do it from some place like this that has the ability to have links, member bios, events, pictures, and just general community while being part of a larger group, I think it'd be pretty solid.

Def agree with bringing the arcade back, I'm being FAR too productive at work.

I don't actually know, never mind.

However I like the idea of groups and more of a focus on social networking. Kind of like hearse space, but better since I fucking hate Ning groups (but do appreciate what that guy is doing even if I'm not on there often).

What are Ning groups? I hope that wasn't a racist comment. We don't "cotton" to racist comments 'round here.

I liked the random album pics at the top of the page. Some got My attention. Also nice seeing a shot of My car up there some may not have seen. Keep up the good work.

well i think the message board here is pretty much where it's at. You could just re-direct www.dead-ends.com to the forums and skip a separate page altogether as far as i'm concerned.

otherwise, we have to come up with a graphical layout, a navigation & structure, and content. it seems like all the meaningful content is here - so i'm not sure it would be efficient to try and recreate something.

If we were to recreate something - i think should be kind of a nice, professional monthly e-zine type of thing that maybe pulls from content on the boards. Assuming of course, that people post interesting and useful topics - either something from the garage, the how-to (especially this), or a feature spotlight on a particular coach, etc, etc.

I can't seem to load any new pics into my albums. Is there some trick to it?

I completely agree Ryan - if this is the main draw, then why not focus our time on the community parts of it and keep all of our stuff rolling on the message board - I might even make a mobile skin for Kevin. =)

The monthly zine is a good idea, implementation is hard especially in gathering of data so that you have good unique content each month. Might be something we have to sort out as a group.

                        Every time I try I get this message- [IOErrorEvent type="ioerroe" bubbles= false cancelable= false eventphase= 2 text= "error #2038"]

It's really annoying, what is the problem here?

I think it might be a firewall problem - I'll keep trying to replicate the problem (are you using Vista or Windows 7 by chance? - the new file uploader is a 'flash uploader')
