So my 51 Buick has a straight 8 in it and is 6 volt (positive ground and all). I bought the 'EZ wiring' harness for it and was thinking of switching to 12 volt, but I'm not entirely sure I really need to or want to go through the trouble. What do you guys think?

Depends on what you want to do with the car. If you are going to drive it just for show and to meets, I would say, leave it all original. If you're going to drive it often, or if you plan on installing stereo and a bunch of electrical crap that runs on 12v (a modified car), then I would say that the first modification should be the electrical system.

The car is going to be a driver. I'm just weighing whether it's worth the time and effort to do so or not. I think I'm leaning towards actually doing the wiring. Might start on it tomorrow.

Here's a place where you can get advice from people who have done these mods. I don't think they'll care that it's not a Cadillac. They're pretty laid-back...they've only thrown me off once, and I'm sure I gave them a good reason to.

I voted to do it just because it will probably piss off the PCS a bit.

How much wiring are you talking? Just to wire up an alternator? If the rest of wiring is in good condition leave it and add the alt. wiring since 6V systems had heavier wiring than 12V and yes I would go 12V just make sure you drop the voltage to points to 5-7 volts. Unless you dig changing points every week.

It's the positive ground part that's going to make it tough, I think.
