    1954 PONTIAC 2DR HEARSE

Initially saw ad on 3/19 and started researching.

Looked to literature and factory brochures to see what matches up. GM ceased making sedan deliveries (both Pontiac and Chevy) in '53. There was not a '54 Pontiac station wagon offering, meaning Barnette must've started with a passenger car as base. There are Barnette factory photos existing (in Tom McPherson's collection) of a similar '50 models. There are no factory photos from '54 nor is it shown in Barnette's '54 brochure.

However, Barnette did offer a three door 400 Series with a 146" wheelbase. After checking and learning that a Pontiac Chieftan (most likely base car) has a wheelbase of 122", this fits the bill. The '54 Barnette brochure does mention four models in the 400 Series line up: landau combination, landau ambulance, landau endloader, and service car. They ranged in price from $4218 to $4318.

What I perceive (at low resolution) as a Eureka coach lamp could have been added at any point or even made by the same company that supplied Eureka and provided to Barnette at build time.

BTW, are you heading to Asheville?
