Woke up Sunday morning to a ticket that the server was hard down and in a state of kernel panic. I had to do some work on the file system and a few tweaks I had been meaning to do, got the machine back up but it was running slow as shit the rest of the day. Decided last night to upgrade php/apache/mysql to the later versions to see if that helped (it did). I also added a volume to the server and have been running backups all day on it - when it's moving the huge backup files between file systems it is absolutely punishing the IO on the machine and usually mysql is the first thing to puke when it does. So periodically you'll see a database error or 2, just give it a minute while it finishes what it was working on and it should be fine. I'm hoping the backup will be finished by tonight so I can see what else needs to be adjusted.
