  • new here from uk, but working in usa

Hi guys and girls, i'm BJ or big john what ever u prefer, not got a hearse yet but looking, not sure what year i want but know i want a caddy and as close to 59 as i can get or even a 59 but i know they go for crazy money, want to use it as a daily, but also hire it out for funerals back home in the uk, so need a tidy one, but don't mind a bit of body or mecanical work if it needs it, and will most likely bag it,

in america i am driving a semi truck round the mid west,

my aim is to collect a few working vehicles along the way and ship them back to the uk for rental, so will also be looking for an ambulance caddy as well, along with an open cab full size fire pumper truck of late 60's or early 70's, but i have to say, the hearse will be my favorit because i think its cool and i love goth girls

well thats enough about me, and what i would like, i'll now go off and continue looking around the forum

Hi John, keep us informed of your search, I'm based in the UK & have some great contacts regarding importing here, (though I know you'll have done your research, it aint easy - I have had some delays with mine, due to the DVLA being a bit tetchy..!) Good luck, and post some pics on your travels, if you get chance.

        Welcome...
Here's a few to start with:

Not a 59, but a good price with a relatively easy to maintain drivetrain...

This one needs a DW570 windshield and is overpriced in my opinion, but as close as you'll get to a 59...

Closest to "ready to go", but cost about twice the actual value...

i like the one with the 454 in it, but over priced, got my eye on a 65 at the moment, but might hold out for a 59 or early 60's, although i do like the lines of the 65, how do you tell what sort of model it is, and if its a combination or a what ever the one is that starts with a L, here is the one i'm watching, seems a good price, and its 100 miles north of my frinds place so could go there for storage and work http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1965-...item20bb94891d

might need some leads on shipping, had emailed a company last year and then my laptop crashed and i can't remember who they were, i have a friend who can collect from the docks, will be shipping into near london somewhere, maybe themesport, or dartford, not worried about DVLA, got a friend that can sort an age related plate just of chassis number, although he normally only deals in motorbikes.

I always have leads. Will check to see which match up with your needs. There is a running, driving, fairly priced '59 right now in the Midwest but I believe it is pending.

              Welcome to the NHAA.

what is classed as a fair price for a 59, and what is a fair price for a 59 that needs work but is all together, just so i know it is worth waiting for a 59 or just go for a later, haven't ruled out a pre 59, but prefer the 59 and later shape, and trying to get a matching 59 ambulance that hasn't been ghostbuster repped i would thing almost imposable

Hey, obfuscate your e-mail address. Spam bots index forums and will kill it with crap.

It's hotmail though so it's probably already being killed with crap.

I only PM mine out or give out one I don't care about at all that I'll just delete later anyway.

SVA is an issue, and all UK work will have to be done - our indicator lights are not compliant with US turn signals, stop lights etc, so nobody can collect it, 'til it's all done (MOT etc.)and paid for. You will need some special forms if you are doing it yourself , you can however insure it just on the VIN, It can all be done, it's just a bit baffling at times. I have used a great company who do the lot - pickup at source - deliver to docks (in the US) - shipping - VAT - pay your import duty, everything, it's worth going down this route in my opinion, as it's less stressful, when you are ready I'll give you a choice of companies. Happy travels.

p.s. go and see the vehicle and REALLY check it out, especially the windscreen, making sure it's not even slightly scratched or cracked (windshield for our US owners) as getting Hearse windscreens is a nightmare - I've been down this road and trying to find one here is extremely challenging...! good luck.

vehicles over 10 years old don't need SVA, OR IVA as it is now, SVA was changed a couple of years ago, i've been building a lotus7 replica so i know all about IVA, vehilces older than 1963 can have red turn signals if they were factory fitted, i have a 54 F100 thats uk bound this year so looked into all that, they collect in usa from door could be useful, but uk end i will get a friend with his 7.5 tonne recovery truck to collect, thanks for the help though
