  • washing your coach...

    hey all,
i did a search to see if there was already a topic on this, couldn't find it, or i'm lazy. either way, do you guys take your coaches through the carwash? i was just washing mine in the self service bay, and the kid who works there came over and said, "you know, you can take that through, they take them here all the time". it just seems wrong, like it may damage the top, i was just wondering what y'all do...

i always hand wash, towell dry, and wax mine. That being said, i don't have the long brushes to wash the top, and it's too tall for me. so the top kinda stays unwashed. i'm afraid to get a ladder near it for fear of scratching.

I'm with Ryan, I only hand wash mine. I go to the Dollar Tree and get a microfiber car wash mitt. When it get to dirty, I get another one. The only thing I will do at a car wash is rinse my hearse. I have thought about cleaning my top at the car wash, because I don't have a long brush. My top is Line-X, so I don't have to worry about hurting it.

I've taken mine through a few "automats" and I always get a good reaction from the staff. I have heard of some who avoid it for fear of the brushes or some other machinery possibly damaging the vinyl roof though. I will also say that sometimes the turn to get into it can be a bit tight.

My friend Fats (you know him as "Dead_Society" on here) has helped me wash mine quite a few times. $20 and he did everything including detailing the inside making it look show ready.

Personally I just hit the chrome with some "Eagle One: Never Dull" and call it good unless there is a show. Maybe when I hit it with new paint eventually I'll take better care of it. I bought it off Fats and he hit it with flat black primer paint... that part needs work.

$20 seems like a pretty good deal for the amount of work it takes to really care for these things.

Mine is garage kept and occasionally I wipe the dust off. As far as washing goes I washed it in 99 when I first got it, can't remember if I have done it since.

We just hand wash ours too. I don't really care for automatic washes (I won't even take my regular cars thru there) but if I'm out of town at a show and in a pinch I will go to one of those self serve washes just for the hose (I still use my mitt). Those brushes swirl your paint bad! And they recycle their water which sucks, but in a pinch if you can't get a hose, I have used them.

Since we're on the subject, what's your favorite wax? I gotta do it but don't know what everybody uses.

We have used Zaino products for over a decade on all our cars (from show cars to daily drivers). Love the stuff. Www.zainostore.com
