Just wanted to introduce myself my name is chuck I live in Washington Utah I'm 31 years old I'm married with a 4 yr old daughter I am a car guy I build all sorts of vehicles mainly demolition derby cars but i am currently building a 58 Pontiac super chief ambulance it's not going to be anything fancy it's going to be more of a rat rod I have had the car for 3 years and unfortunately just getting started in it had no motor or trans when I got it but found a good running 70 Pontiac 428 that will be going in it I will Post pics as they are taken another unfortunate thing is I have no hood but I'm not to worried about that since its not going to be a high dollar show car if you have any questions or comment please feel free to speak and please don't edit anything I'm a big boy I can handle shit just like the next guy

Loving hearing about someone's first procar being something from this vintage. Finding a hood shouldn't prove difficult as it is not coach built. Any '58 Pontiac will suffice (of which I saw several in rust-free NM and CO junkyards).

Go back to rocking Navy's signature blue, maybe satin. Tribute crap all ends up coming out as poorly as an OCC build.
Came across an army version of your '58 Superior in NM desert a few years ago. Can post pics if you'd like to see that one.

I would love to see that one and as far as paint goes on this one it's probably going to stay just like it is at least for now I want to get it up and running and go from there it's been sitting idol for 38 years the family I bought it from bought it strictly for the motor and trans to go in another Pontiac star chief that I've also been trying to buy for a parts car does anyone know how many of the 58s are left

Welcome to the NHAA. Very sweet 58. Hou have your work cut out for you but shes certainly a beauty! Like others i will eagerly await pics of progress.
+1 on the satin Navy blue. If i see one more flat/satin/hot rod black car im gonna puke lol. It was cool at first, but now people are painting 1989 olds 88's satin black (no shit, kid down the road did this) and calling them "rat rods" (another term thats getting overused waaaaaaaay to fuckin much) just my opinion of course.

I checked in the "Superior - The Complete History" book and unfortunately 1958 was the last year for poor records... they only list the total amount of cars built per chassis. There was a total of 344 pontiacs built by Superior in 1958 (that includes ALL models of hearses and ambulances).
It's safe to say yours is one of less than 10, the military ambulances were usually extremely low production. Yours is a "Pontiac 46" Super Headroom Military ambulance" they made the raised roof option in two versions, a 42.5" headroom and 46" headroom but all the hightop military ambulances I've seen are the 46" headroom. Another interesting note in the book is that the Cadillac "Rescuer" hightop ambulances all had fiberglass roofs in the patient area, yet the Pontiacs all were "a one-piece, deep drawn all steel stamping". The military ambulances are neat, they never incorporated lights into the front of the raised roof like all other hightop models... they simply had a raised gumball light like yours has. Your perch looks right, but the light itself is a much later model off a police car. At any rate your ambo is awesome and I can't wait to see your progress photos!

NM example mentioned, some have been shared here before. Looks rough as a cob but metal was actually VERY solid. Owner had a clean front clip minus hood.
I do not know if it is still there and suspect that it sold earlier this year when a TX vintage dealer swept through and purchased several units.
