Glad to see you got her home quickly. When you said you guys were riding home with Richard shivers went down my spine. I was like NOOOOOOOOO!
Also be glad it happened on the way home and not the way there, that would have sucked far worse.

we should also mention that nick and chass blew a tire and drove home on my spare. Some woman hit kevin with her car in the gas station parking lot. the ride home was like some kind of death march.

Hit Kevin? or hit his car?
And is he or the car alright? any damage?

I'd also be interested on what faulted the Transmission.. A friend of mine's '60 had a bung transmission which actually caught fire while driving! Luckily he had a fire exstinguisher under the dash or else his car would have been toast. ...'Scuse the pun, haha

I keep a huge fire extinguisher behind the seat all the time, I damned sure don't want that thing going up in flames!

Looks and sounds like it's the pump and I sent a 'strongly worded' email to Hughes (the makers of the pump and converter) about my displeasure at going a whopping 300 miles before their shit gave up on me in the mountains. Here is what they sent me:

                  Hello Chris,
Thank you for submitting a contact form with Hughes Performance. I apologize that you are experiencing problems with your transmission. Before you condemn our components as being the source of the problem you will need to ship the components back to our facility for inspection and failure analysis. The parts will quickly tell a story as to what happened and why it happened whether it be due to an installation error, defect, workmanship issue, etc. Furthermore, you do not perform a pressure test at either cooler port. There is an 1/8" NPT port located in the case above and to the rear of the shift linkage. You will need remove the plug from the case and connect a 0 - 300 PSI gauge to this port in order to properly check line pressure.

If you would like to pursue this further and get an answer as to what happened and why it happened then I would like to request that you please return the pump, torque converter, and proof of purchase to:

                  Hughes Performance
                  Att'n: Pete Nichols
                  2244 W. McDowell Rd.
                  Phoenix, AZ 85009

Once we receive the components we will disassemble them, inspect them, and determine the cause of failure. If we find that either component has a defect or workmanship issue that caused the failure then we will proceed further with any possible warranty assistance that we may be able to offer.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time.

                  Thank you,

We're going to send it - but if this wasn't someone I knew actually doing the work for me, I'd be out a considerable amount of money in towing and having the transmission pulled and then the probably $100+ in shipping to send those heavy bastards to AZ.

That sucks. What is their track record on honoring their warranty and such?

Billy did clean the system out real good before re-assembly I hope, or you may get a strongly worded letter back if they find trash in the parts.
If it's the parts fault I would bet they will do you right.
