  • So I've got some room in the garage.

Due to Nikki buying that new monster truck (that thing is so much fun! Went offroading in the back yard yesterday) - that frees up the garage again. I thought about putting my cobra in there, but since I drive it to the gym every day, getting it in and out of the garage, around the big ass truck and filling up the garage with the exhaust while I warm up the car just seems like a waste. Soooo, I'm going to move Morticia to the center of the garage, and put her up on jackstands so I can start working on her again. Driving around in Nikki's truck reminds me how much I love driving and playing with old cars, so I am going to take advantage of the huge garage space I have and actually finish my car!

    Just thought I'd share.

Please don't die, I've hardly gotten to know you...

Seriously, I just made a post on a truck forum I go to about jackstands, after buying a truck much bigger than I have owned before and attempting to work on it. I found out most jackstands are rated in pairs, even though the outside of the box will rarely say anything about it. I'm actually surprised more people haven't died, including myself. I've been working on cars for 25 years, and I finally took the time to read the instructions for a pair of jackstands, only to find out they are only good for their rated capacity in pairs. In other words, they are usually good for HALF of what they say on the side of them.

But you'd have to well exceed that capacity (which is probably rated at 'safe' capacity or 2/3 of what the actual limit is) on the lever end (assuming that the wheels that were still on the ground) and the wheels would be the fulcrum side. So yeah you would support alot more weight on a reallllly long car like a hearse, it's not like you're putting exactly half on a pair of jackstands.

Besides, a normal hearse weighs around 7k lbs (I think), and at 6k lbs capacity per pair, and you'd have a total of 12k lbs of capacity for a set to pick the entire car up.
