  • Remove table supports

    Hi -
I am a new member - I just want to say you guys have a great site here.
I don't know if this was covered before or if you know-
Can the rectangular tubing supporting the table be removed on an older, say '59-'61, 3 way body
    (w/ suicide side doors)
with out causing distortion ie.- door malfunction?
How about on a standard side door configuration?
I was interested in installing a rear seat (station wagon style) & wanted to remove these for better access.
These bars run along the side of the side doors -
I was also thinking that they may be required in case of side impact(collision)
because of the lack of a B-Pillar.
    Thanks for any info!

Yes they can be removed. I don't think it supports anything more than the table itself. No side impact rules on a car that old.

I myself wouldn't remove the table unless it is beyond repair. 3-ways are the best/coolest coaches, and it would take away from the value of the car more than anything else you could do to it. That vintage is very popular too. Not trying to tell you what to do with your car, it is your car in the end, so you are free to do want you want to it. Just giving you another point of view you may not have taken in to concideration.

Good luck with your project, and post some pics.

      Riff Raff -
Thanks for the info. I didn't buy the car yet. The table was removed & only the framing is left. I was just interested to see if it was possible.
I'll keep you guys posted on any progress!
      Thanks again -Doug
