As far as the car discrimination, the local police said it is private property & thay have the right to refuse service to anyone. Which I find is still a crock-o-crap!

I realize I will be the odd one out here for my libertarian views. . .

I have to agree with the right for a private business (individual) to choose whom they wish to do business with. Personally, I think it's a poor choice and I personally would take my business elsewhere and I'd also make my opinion known to several people. Ultimately though, if I want my rights protected, that means that a private business should have the same rights.

It is a crock of crap! I don't even have a hearse yet,but I've been called morbid or dark for wanting one! I don't see the problem with showing appreciation for the vehicle that carries loved 1's to their final resting place! I choose to celebrate life and unlike most people,I do not fear death. As for funerals, most civilians have never experienced a military memorial service that is held for a fallen soldier,I have experienced 2 while I was in Iraq, doesn't matter if you expect the shots for the salute, you still jump, and the roll call will bring anyone to tears. If I go the rest of my military career without another I'll be happy. I say party like tomorrow doesn't exist and always be sure to tell your friends you love em!

I'm not sure, but in France, this is not possible. Professionals must serve, or sell their products to anyone if they have not a
Legitimate reason ( that is defined in the law ). This is call in French " refus de vente " ( "Refusal to sell" ) and this is liable to criminal sanctions.

For the raffle tickets : i just understood ! For 20$ you can buy tickets for the lengh of the car ! ok !

The 2nd show I atteneded, as soon as I parked the car, I had people bitching. It's to big, it's offensive, it needs 2 spaces, etc. Overall the show was great, it was a big hit. They also sold raffle tickets there, you could get a car length for $20, guess which car was always chosen for that, appearantly that is all my car is good for. But you get approximately 130 tickets on a hearse length.
Sorry, what is " a length" ? Is it people that pay for driving with you with the car ? ( i'm french ).

    I forgot about this:
Last year, the hearses from willitmakeit.com went to a local car show hosted by McDonalds every Saturday night. It was October when they went, thinking hearses at a car show just prior to Halloween would be a hit, they were wrong.
Below is the link to the video they took, unfortunately some of the video was damaged, so what is seen is what remained from the initial video. They were thrown out forcefully becuase they showed up at McDonalds with hearses.
They have also been refused services at Burger King because they went through the drive through in a hearse, I personally have never had these type of experiences.

A short hearse is for the mentally retarded when they die.

I can't recall a negative thing said to me or Ken about my coaches. The most common thing I'll get is questions as to why I would own one. Usually I'll tell them that if they had the ability to buy whatever car they wanted, it's because they like it for personal reasons. The only reason I get the question on mine is because of what it is. Most of these folks just can't wrap their brain around why we'd want such a vehicle. For me, it's the beauty of the car, the value of it (where else can you buy some of the equivilant years of these cars at their price?) the ability to keep it going where it may otherwise have been sent to a junkyard (how dignified is that?), and hey, lookit all the room I get! (I love it when little boys run to the back and say stuff like that).

I really could care less if someone dissagrees with me owning them. Those are the people with some real issues. I rarely take notice of how people react when I'm driving. I've only noted one person making a sign of the cross as I drove by (it was more like a respectful reaction). I have gotten some smart ass (or dumb) comments, but I think it was due to my professional office attire (zomgs! A GIRL with a car like that? I must say something cute like "hey, is Uncle Fester in there?").

Last year, being my first summer with my Coach, doing shows here in Rochester was GREAT. I did cruises & shows every week (sometimes 2) and got to the point where if I missed one, the next week everyone wanted to know where I was.
Anyhow, something I haven't seen here yet is HOW do you display your Coach? This could have a lot to how your car is accepted.
I have 2 props that go with me... "Uncle Urnie" in the back (no coffin - may be too much for 'normal' people to handle - LOL), and a Gremlin out front loaded with candy for the kids.
I've had a few comments on my 'Death Car', but calmly explain it is an HONOR car, built to take loved ones to the final hunting ground in the sky, and usually, they end up agreeing.
So far, my biggest problem is figuring out what class to enter... At a GOB show, they wanted me in Stock, then it was suggested Modified, then finding out the car is 75% fiberglass, I was moved to KIT-CARS (you would have laughed your ars off... 6 Cobras with a Hearse parked right in the middle).
Anyhow, it all depends on your state of mind when talking to people... once on my way home I stopped for gas - At the pump was a very nice Mustang (looked like original owners). As the guy pumped gas, his Wife looked over and said "Now THAT is really scary", I looked back & said "Yep, I know what you mean... the price of GAS is outrageous, isn't it"

I have been to a show put on by Auto Zone and maybe 75 cars showed up. One of the awards went to rarest at show. The other was for most original. I was in the blue 60 Buick Premier hearse. I had a 2 large signs that I diplayed next to the car. Long story short they ignored my car completely. The judges walked next to it and glanced it over they moved on. I lost rarest at show to a 1979 Bronco (I was pissed). and I lost most original to a 57 chevy that was largly original but the paint and interior had been redone.

    SIGN ONE in BIG letters

1960 Buick Premier Hearse by Flxible
This car is one of 86 Premier coaches built by the Flxible company in Laudenville Ohio using the 1960 Buick Electra stripped chassis. There are only 8 Premiers known to exist and only 2 are limo style hearses. This is the only surviving Flxible in Midnight Blue and the only one this style interior was ever installed in.
The engine is an Electra 401 with a whopping 445 lb-ft of torque and 325 hp.
The car was stretched 26.7 inches.
This car cost 8615.00 new which was nearly twice that of a regular production model.
This car survives untouched and original down to the paint.
The car has 82,000 original miles.

Lots of pictures were on the lower portion of the sign.

    SIGN TWO

This is my baby "Cathline". She was built in Flint Michigan (as all Flxible cars were). She started out as an Electra Stripped Chassis, which was a Lesabre 2 door sedan body on and Electra frame and running gear. She was built with out a decklid, rear glass, and had little more than a seat and dashboard for an interior. She was little more than a running hull. The body was originally Lucerne Green with a Sable black front clip and a Gull Gray interior. She was then trucked to Loudonville Ohio to be modified for funeral service. Marvin Albee owned the Albee mortuary in Condon Oregon and decieded it was time for a new first call hearse. He went to the local professional car dealer "Franz-Ritz" in Portland Oregon and placed his order for a Midnight Blue Flxible Premier limo style hearse with a maroon interior. Just a no frills basic work car with a rear carpet to cover the rollers for ambulance dutys. Not even a cot bar was ordered. At the time Condon was a very small town with large wheat farms and few people. The order was placed and the sedan was cut in two and stretched 26.7 inches. The one piece steel top and custom doors were installed and she was then sprayed Midnight Blue. Then came the custom wood floor and wrap around glass. The maroon interior was then installed with blue airline style curtains. The seat was recovered in red and the custom red front door panels were installed. Then came the trim and casket rollers and a final inspection. cathline then had some pictures taken out side the factory and was loaded up on a truck bound for Oregon, almost 3 weeks after the first cut was made. Marvin was then informed than his new toy was at the dealer ship and he had a friend drop him at the dealer. The car was used in Condon as the only hearse and the only ambulance in town. the town grew and so did the competition so in 1979 he sold the business to the Sweeney Mortuary based in nerby Heppner Oregon. Patrick Sweeney changed the name but kept the home in business. He got both the Buick and a 1973 Cadillac Miller Meteor Hearse in the deal. Pat liked the Buick and it became the primary car for both homes even though they were 40 miles apart. One day while going to Condon Pat decieded to open her up on a long straight strtch of road. A local cop caught him in his radar after slowing down at 110 mph and took him to see the judge. The local justice of the peace was none other than Marvin Albee! When he got to court and Marvin heard the charges he said " You were in the Buick wern't you" Pat said "Yup that thing will fly". Marvin had no choice but to "throw the book at him" so there would be no conflict of interest. Pat kept the car in service until 1984 and then rented it out once in 1985 for a movie filmed in Condon Oregon "Reagan's Childern, A Year in Lincoln Plains". The car was then parked on his brothers farm in the scrap field where she sat for the next 18 years. A local Resident spotted the car sitting next to the 73 cadillac hearse and bought both for 500 dollars. He got them both to the house and sold the Cadillac for some quick cash but wanted the engine in the Buick for his 1954 Chevy Sedan Delivery and would then part the rest or scrap her. Luckily he found out the 401 engine would not bolt to his bow tie transmission so he put it on Ebay in June of 2003 (suggested by his nagging wife). the auction ended July 4th 2003 and she was Georgia bound

Hearses don't appeal to everyone but neither does 4x4's and rice burnners, and they seem to be accepted in all the shows I have attended. Myself, give me an good old American made auto, like Cadillac, and I'm happy, the more outragous the better and if it is customized hell yes... thankfully we have events like Hearsecon and others to flaunt our hearse's, and who cares if anyone else is offended....they still noticed enough to be offended....lol
