  • Photo Shoot for the Hearse

I have been approached by a National Car Magazine to have my 1959 Cadillac Superior hearse featured in an upcoming feature article in an Australian national car magazine.
Its a first for me. Interview tomorrow and photoshoot a few days away on Tuesday.
MORGANA s ready for it but not sure I am.
Photoshoot to be set in a cemetary at dusk....props we have ...coffin, fake spook that can drape the full length of the back. Photographer will bring flowers, lighting etc. etc.
I was hoping to be able to step aside and let him take all the piks he wants, but apparently I am to be in them.
The CRACK you just heard was the camera lens breaking as it takes my picture !
Cant avoid it.....damn ! My protests about a distance shot with me only in the drivers seat and him using the soft focus lens...preferably out of focus fell on deaf ears.
I have been told to wear something appropriate to a hearse. Does that mean funeral type attire or does that mean Elvira type costume ? God knows ? Anyone got any ideas ??
I am not sure it would do MORGANA full justice to have it all ghosts n ghouls theme, however I am happy to run with the fun of it.
Would appreciate some input ...any suggestions welcome.

Speaking as a photographer, you should wear what you are most comfortable with. And if you don't want the spooks and ghouls, tell them that. If they are a good photographer, they will understand! Congrats on the recognition for your beautiful coach, and relax! Photo shoots are usually a lot of fun! We are hoping to do some with Judas and anyone else's coach who would like to be involved very soon!

If you don't want to do the ghouls and ghosts then explain that to them ONCE THEY ARE THERE. I have found that it is far easier to bargain on this when they are so far along they can't back out. Not saying not to give them a choice, I am just saying I have dealt with a lot of these style things and I know that when the person has actually arrived it makes it a LOT easier for you to state what you want and they are more willing to acommodate it.

If it were me, I would explain that there are literally MILLIONS of photos out there of hearses in cemeteries with the standard fare of Halloween stuff. If 7-11 were to make a photo of a hearse it would include all those themes. If I were you I'd start thinking about alternate locations, spooky old buildings, abandoned schools, places with tall creepy trees, anywhere that the sunlight would look great coming through. Have a couple of suggestions ready for alternatives so when it does come up you aren't just complaining, you're offering a suggestion of equal or greater value.

I'd also say to expect it to take a while. A while back Maxim sent out a photographer for Alexi and I and no shit, it took 6 hours and over 8 rolls of film for ONE picture. Now it was one HELL of a good picture, but it illustrates how much time they are willing to throw at it to get a good shot.

As for the clothing, I'd honestly say classy is better than ghoulish or silly.

I really appreciate the answers and feedback ...........I will put all that into practice on the day. Rather that than see an article at the end I am unhappy about or have no control over. Many thanks....you guys are tops.

Your first shoot will be fun. Enjoy it.

Every other shoot you ever do will be a pain in the ass and boring. You'll find yourself wishing you were out driving.

Photoshoot over and done with...four hours of which 2 hours were dark at night shots with lighting for the gravestones etc. At least 500 shots taken. Now we wait for the magazine article to come out.

Yes. The article was in last months UNIQUE CARS Magazine in Australia. If anyone wants a copy send me your email address and I will send onto you. It turned out to be a six page feature article.
