  • Tony Stewart's1984 Cadillac Hearse

I didn't find anything here on the forums about Tony Stewart's '84 Caddy that was redone by Unique Autosports, so I thought I'd share. Maybe some of you hadn't seen it. Here's the link and a few teaser pics:http://www.caraudiomag.com/features/...rse/index.html

Anybody here yanked the front bench seat and put in buckets and custom console? I'd love to do something like that with my '69

I did, not to the extent of Tony's hearse, but I have bucket seats with a custom center console. I'll see if I can find some pictures, or take some to show.

Not mine either but it was interesting watching the build. Don't really understand the the paint scheme?!?

I really liked the custom dash and center console, and atleast she's not rusting in a field or coming out of a crusher.

Here are some pictures I have on my computer of my conversion.

I removed the bench seat & replaced it with 2 seats from a Dodge Stratus/Intrepid. The dimensions of the seat where almost the same as the bench so it wouldn't interfere with the distance from the floorboard to seat ride height, the width & length were similar & the outer mounting rails lined up with the old bench seat so I had to do less fab work. I then had the seats wrapped in original 1975 M&M hearse fabric & had the M&M patch sown into the headrests.

The center console I designed houses all the extras I put in the car, i.e., flame thrower controls, aux switches for the neon, LEDs, bass controls, driving lights, etc. It also has aux 12 volt power ports & has built in expansions for a DVD play & in car navigation system. Plus it allows me to conceal the wiring harness.

Thanks for the pics. It looks good from what I can see.
What did you do for your seat mounting? Did you have/need to reinforce the flooring?

Is your tranny tunnel square or did you build a platform of some sort prior to installing the dynamat?

The outer mounting rails (door sides) holes matched perfectly to the pre-drilled bench seat holes. The inner rails had no holes, marked & drilled holes. Bought several oversized washers, they are 3 inch in diameter & about an eight inch thick, stacked two washers & welded them together. Then welded a nut on top of that, lined up the stack under the new holes in the floorboard & welded it in.
I reinforced it as a 'just in case' situation ever arose, wether it be a safety inspection or a car accident. I want the seat to stay attached to the car.

My tunnel was rounded, built up a squared platform to allow easy mounting of the center console.

I have to say some negative things about Tony's whole build.

1st, some of the most talented people in the industry were recruited to work on this car. Why would you rush them as they did on the show?!?

                2nd, those seats are lame.

3rd, why would you take up so much space to put in (4) 12" subs?

4th, that woodgrain looks like a station wagon.

Kaptin did a great job with his console and seats. I have seen them in person, and they look very professional.

Lastly, EvilManor, I would be happy to help with some ideas. Serious mods are my thing. PM me if you like.

Big Evil's mod's on his hearse are the bomb! They friggin rock. Can't wait to see the hearse in it's completed state.

I figure, built a car to your liking, not some one elses. Tony's is cool in it's own sense, but not my liking. I agree with Big Evil, the seats are lame & you can put in more speakers or other items, not just a cover taking up room. But that's my opinion.

Here are some better pictures of my center console.

The chrome figure 8 stand in the front is the cup holder & then the skull cover is off of a Harley Davidson, it flips up (James Bond style) to access the aux switches that control my extra lighting & flame thrower system.

I thought it was interesting, but I didn't like the idea of painting ALL the Chrome Black, the landau's are almost invisible now. And the Dash looks like a cockpit and the bone shifter does not match anything else in the car.

I have the bucketseats from my Tiburon that I want to put in my hearse but the holes and brackets need major modifying. Might do it soon just to keep working on it.

Where did you get the fabric? My 61 needs a new cover...
