  • What size Engine,.....and VIN number

    Hey guys...........

I'd love it if you'd teach me how to read these old VIN numbers........

Also,......anyone know what the standard/most common engine put into the 59' M&M hearses?

    Was it a 390?

The engine is a 390, if it is original to the car the block number will match your VIN #. The block# on a 1959 390 is just above the oilpan on the drivers side. The Vin # should be on your Miller Meteor fender tag and be a 59Z****** and body number would be 59*** the * indicates what number in the assembly line it was as Cadillac built their cars starting from 000001 onward and all types of 59's were on the same line. Miller Meteor also hand painted the body# on the firewall by the heater on the pass side they seemed to have started their # as 591** for the Futura Limosine Duplexes. The Vin # will also be on the frame of the car located below and aft of the radiator support bracket on the drivers side. Hope this helps and you find your #'s.

Cadillac used both the Carter AFB four barrel carb(Aluminum Four Barrel) and the Rochester 4GC in mixed production on single carburetor engines, while the Rochester 2GC is used on the 3-2 barrel carburetor engine.
The best thing you could get is a used 1959 Cadillac shop manual on Ebay as it has all the data and adjustments that you will need for the car.
