  • What are the odds!? Need some advice...

So if you’ve been following my posts you’ll know I’ve been looking for a parts car for my 68 superior. Gotten a coupla nibbles but after returning the initial contact….nothing. Also I’ve spent the last year almost daily searching google, craig’s list, and numerous other sites trying to find…anything. So I’m driving around and I’m about five blocks from where I live, and what do I see? A 1968 Caddy Superior three way hearse. JUST LIKE MINE! Even down to the rear window sails. What are the odds in that!? So my question is how should I go about contacting this person? Leave a note on the door of the house? Wright down their addy and send them a letter?

Hopefully one of you guys has had experience on how to approach a hearse owner out of the blue and could give me some pointers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I always just drive up in mine and knock on the door if I can figure out whose house it is, if not I leave a note in a ziplock back (in case it rains) on the hearse in a visible place.

I agree with Zach on all points. If you show up with yours, they know you aren't just another mouth breather...

I have, however, gone the long route too. I found my 1981 S&S on the side of the highway. Wrote down the vin and license plate #'s, went to the DMV and told them it was gonna get towed. They provided the owner's name and address which turned out to be a funeral home in South Dallas. To shorten the story, it was stolen a week prior. After they recovered the vehicle, I ended up buying it for $500, putting gas in it and jumping the battery. Except for shelling 2 transmissions, it has been a great car...

I think I mentioned before that we have some really messed-up laws here in AZ. You can steal anyone's car just by getting the VIN and applying for an abandoned title. Tony watched someone's motorcycle get stolen that way. Of course, if it's parked 5 houses down, you might have to hide it, lest thee get filled with buckshot.
