  • Old Cadillac question??????

So we got the 49 Miller and it will need much work, but what I need to know is what kind of Caddy is it?
Did they make a commercial chassis in 1949? and if so what was it called?
If I go to look for parts what do I need to look under?

It will be classified as the 1949 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 series commercial chassis. In 1949 there were 1,861 commercial chassis cars delivered to various coachbuilders. Keep in mind that 1,861 includes hearses ambulances flowercars AND limos. So there is a VERY high chance that that car you have there is the ONLY survivor with it's particular set up, options, ect. Anything else you wanna know?

Oh btw, if it still has a motor in it, the motor serial number will be between 497500000 and 497577135. If it is the original motor that is.......

The '49 commercial chassis is 86 (163" wheel base). The 75 was the limo (136" wheel base). Check your serial number on the boss, right side front of the block. Also, on top of the frame on the passenger side motor compartment just behind the engine support bracket. It should say 4986xxxx. It would be rare if they match.

                    Miller

Your coach was built by the Miller company, that merged with Meteor in 1956 to form Miller Meteor. From 1957, Miller and Meteor ceased to be separate brands, and all the Cadillac Chassis vehicles were Miller-Meteor. The same company also built the Comet coach, which became Cotner-Bevington when the name "Comet" was sold to the Ford Motor Company. The small oval windows were a trademark of Miller coaches until 1956, and were not available on Miller-Meteor coaches. Your coach has the new tailfins, which were first used on Cadillac passenger cars in 1948, and would be used (with some modification) until 1956. Interestingly enough, those fins would not be available on Limousines until 1950. Enjoy your coach. It is a wonderful example of the coachbuilder’s art.

I love Coopers, right here in Burbank! if they don't have the part you need, they recommend checking with Memory lane auto salvage:
