Another windshield question.

I know this has probably been asked too many times but i just want to confirm that all superior coaches from 1965 to 1970 take the same windshield regardless of make . I have a 1965 pontiac and may have a lead on a windshield from a 1967 cadillac both superior coaches.Thanks for any info in advance. Dave

Okay, not really. It has been brought to my attention since I posted that link that the number contained therein is not correct for a hearse. (This, by someone who needs a handful of them and who's father has been in the auto glass business for over 30 years.) My apology for spreading misinformation.

The part# for my '65 superior was a DW678 (I don't know if that helps you or not, lol.)

I was told by the Safelite tech that came to my place to install the #661, (which they said would definitely fit but it didn't) that the part number I really needed was the #678, at a price of $930 uninstalled...rather than the $217 installed for the #661. Quite a difference in price!!!!!

I hope you can find a better deal. This w/s stuff is driving me crazy. Replacement parts for vintage cars are manufactured all the time...but I guess glass isn't??? Seems odd.

Well on a good note, at least the price has actually gone down, lol. 5 years ago when I got mine, it was $1200 + installation, lol.

Talk to your insurance company, they paid for mine in full no problem, and they were really cool about it.

Well, the glass was damaged on the trip home the day I bought it, so it wasn't insured.

Wow, #678 was $1200? OMG! I don't think oil runs the nation's economy...I think windshields do!!!!!

I believe 65 - 70 maybe 71 (caddy's) are the same and yes its the DW678. I bought one back in May for my '69. $650 plus installation taxes etc...came out to just under $900.

Kind of doubt the Caddy windshield will fit a Pontiac though, but I've been wrong before.

Mine was broken when I actually bought the car and I told my insurance that (I didn't lie to them at all, because that would be bad karma, lol), and they were really cool and took care of it anyway. They said they just wanted it to be safe.

Most insurance companies cover you instantly when you buy a new car for a short time, so you can get it home and get there to do all the proper paperwork, as long as you are already insured through them on another car.

It never hurts to ask, lol.

Actually the Pontiac is the same. I bought my car as a parts car from some people that only bought it to take the windshield out and put it in there Pontiac, because they couldn't find one. Then they put the broken one back in mine to sell it. I think it was based on the coach builder though.

Wow that's good to know. It doesn't appear to be coach specific between the caddys. I wonder how many different coach builders used the Pontiac?

I guess I should specify that it was a '65 Pontiac hearse that swapped over, lol. (I don't remember the coach company)

For the 70 the part #is DW750 and they dont carry it or cant get it is what i was told today. WTF i was told that it is a 4hr job to replace glass at $108 an hour.
