  • Miller-Meteor Event Scheduled

It is with great excitement that I announce yet another major Miller-Meteor Event that will take place in Piqua, Ohio this spring! As many of you know, accomplished professional car author and historian, Thomas A. McPherson has recently completed his largest volume yet: "Miller-Meteor, The Complete History." What a better way to officially unveil and distribute this book than in the very setting that much of the book takes place?

Through the efforts of retired Miller-Meteor employee, Tom Caserta, this will be a two-day event in Piqua, celebrating the Miller-Meteor history. This will be the FOURTH Miller-Meteor Reunion in six years and it all begins with a Miller-Meteor Book Launch on Friday evening, May 21st at the library in downtown Piqua from 5-9 PM. The event continues on Saturday, May 22 from 10 AM - 4 PM. The Piqua Historical Society and the library's local history department have embraced this event and have coordinated it in conjunction with their local Arts weekend.

Miller-Meteor enthusiasts are invited to bring their professional cars in suport of this event; there will be reserved parking by the library for our cars and related displays. Miller-Meteor retirees will be in attendance both days, truly making "Miller-Meteor Reunin IV" extra special!

Tom Caserta has arranged for lodging at the Piqua Comfort Inn (same location as has been the headquarters hotel for previous Miller-Meteor Reunions.) A special rate of $ 60.00 per night will be extended to our group. Make a reservation by calling (937) 778-8100 and mention you are with the Miller-Meteor Reunion.

There is time to get your Miller-Meteor professional car shaped up, reservations made, and plans confirmed to attend this milestone event! What a better way to take delivery of "Miller-Meteor, The Complete History" than by personally meeting Mr. McPherson, having him autograph your copy, and spending two fun-filled days celebrating A.J. Miller, Meteor Motor Car, Miller-Meteor, and Cotner/Bevington history!

If you have questions or need more information, please feel welcome to contact Tom Caserta at (937) 570-0110.

    See you in Piqua!

I sure would like to get a copy of Tom Mc Pherson's book on Miller-Meteor. I paid for it over ten years ago and never got a copy. I was a member of PCS at that time and we were told that Tom had gone belly up and the book wasn't going to be published. I am sure Louis Farah who was president at the time would verify the details. I would like to tour the factory too. If I was to drive 600 miles (getting about 10-12 mpg on a good day), I'd like to do more than hang out in a library parking lot.

I bought my 1975 Miller Meteor Cadillac Combination Ambulance Hearse in Burbank about 1986 and sold it in west Hollywood, CA about 2003. It was silver with white and silver interior and had a crinkle black top. It was beautiful. The people I sold it to gave me the impression that they were going to send it to a east European country, but I don't know if they ever did. I sure would like to find it again. Anybody have any suggestions?

I am curious about this event and see that this was originally posted over a year ago. Is this an annual event or just done whenever they decide to have it? I would like to attend.

They've had it the last couple years, and I believe they are going to try to make it an annual thing. Best place to look for notices would be the PCS board.

As for the MM book, I don't remember the whole story, but what sticks in my head is that the non-delivery of the original offering was not Tom McPhersons fault, but there are still a lot of people upset about it. When Tom was able to make an MM book available, he did, and that is what is being sold now. For whatever reason, paying for the old book and not receiving it does not entitle one to a copy of the new book. I'm sure somebody here will chime in with more information on the situation. All I remember is that I could see both sides of the situation, with the people that paid thinking they should get a free copy of the new book, and also that because of the circumstances involved Tom shouldn't be responsible for getting those people a new book. Something about a publisher that didn't deliver, and that the only connection from the old offering to the new offering is Tom himself. I'll see if I can dig up more info.

Ok, after reading several pages of material that I am not at liberty to copy and paste, here is the short version of the Miller-Meteor book situation:

Pre-orders were taken back in 1995, and that money was forwarded to the publisher to produce the book. The publisher's printing company then went bankrupt, and by most accounts kept the money that was given to them to print the book.

A couple of years ago the current publisher of the book, Iconographix, cautiously agreed to publish the book, knowing of the previous situation. They were assured that they had no connection or responsibility with regards to the orders taken in the past.

At the book unveiling, Tom McPherson publicly apologized to everyone who had been shorted in the original deal. Additionally, it has been reported by some that they received letters from the original publisher in 1998 that anyone who placed an order would be eventually taken care of, and those letters were signed by Tom McPherson. So it appears that anyone that feels like they still need a resolution in this matter should contact Tom McPherson directly, and you will either get restitution or not. Either way, that would probably be the end of the line as far as seeking a resolution, contact the man and he will either make good on it or not.

The current publisher has no connections to the earlier dealings. Approaching them would likely be a dead end and a waste of time.

Thank you for your information. I do recall that all the facts are indeed true. I had a personal talk with Tom McPherson at one of the PCS meetings, and I was assured that if the book was ever published, I would get a copy. How do I get in touch with Tom??

I do not have any contact information for him, but he occasionally shows up at PCS events.

Wow! Sounds like a great event. And at a library too! How awesome is that? Two of my fave things: hearses and books!
