I'm new here, but have always loved the look of a hearse. I tried to buy one in my late teens, early twenties, but never got that accomplished. So now, 15 years and 3 kids later, I figure its time to try again. I have found 4 or 5 hearse for sale in my area. I'm just trying to get an idea of what I'm looking as far as "problems" that are unique to hearse. Any Info would be helpful, and a mentor in the area would be great.

hi there, I am in portland oregon, there are a few things that I can think of when it comes to a hearse problem. but it may vary from year to year. I know that a few of the 50's style I think until 54. there was wood framed bodies that might be total rot and have to be remade. the under carriage of the hearse floor pans could be rusted out. I have a 84 and it was undercoated for rust protection. the main big one it seems in all padded tops , rust under the padded roof, if the hearse has been out in the rain over the yearse the roof underneath is like swiss cheese.windshield and door frames leak bad in the rain. hearse windshields can be hard to find and very $$$ depending on what year if you can even find one. rust is common under the belt line just below where the padded roof meets the frame of the body..bubbles under the paint ...you get that "crunching" sound when you push on it.side glass if curved ,is hard to find. some parts like any old car are hard to get . hope that helps a little

Thanks guys for the responce and welcomes. Beast Lee, that was a ways back, they since have torn down the building, The Breakers is closed also. It's hard to keep a business going here.
Cean, thanks for the info, but at this point in time I don't have the cash flow to work on one that age. I was looking at more of a 70's to mid 80's. I found quite a few in my area ranging from $2200 to $8000. I'm just kind of stuck not "shopping" much, and nothing to compare prices. So unfortunatily I'm gonna be buggin the hell out of you guys with simple questions.

Welcome.
I'm in Spokane WA. There's not much for coaches over here.
The rain city hearse club (over in the Seattle area) has a bunch of members still, they might be a good local source over there for you also. www.raincityhearse.org
This one looks kinda cool. http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/1652283214.htmlLast edited by Creepy Cruiser; 03-21-2010, 02:29 PM.

Actually know of a stash in western WA but I need to physically travel there and look first before revealing how many and what exactly.
Few of us thought this '72 Superior last week is a very good deal. Drive it home.

I misspoke. The stash is in Eastern WA - even closer Creepy.
Will start looking at flights. Few things I need to be here for upcoming and I'd like to stay in that area a few days minimum. Already know that I won't have enough camera battery life...

Psst! Go look at this freshly listed '50 Pontiac. Sure, it sounds overpriced but it should be close enough to take a gander.
