  • Opening the rear door Question for the masses and ???

I have always wondered why some of the hearses' rear door open to the passenger's side and others open to the driver's side,
Is this a year specific thing?
or an option when hearse was ordered?

Most newer hearses will open away from the curb. So if you pull up to a curb on the right side of the road, you won't have to walk around the door, when getting your casket out. Don't know what year they started this.

my 1975's handle is on the right and opens to the left driver side so the hinges are on the driver side

I have noticed different companies hinged the doors to different sides. My friend has an 87 S&S and a 94 Superior and they are open to the left. My 73 MM opens to the right.

I've also seen a Lincoln from the 80's with the rear door being more of a tailgate and opening up like a hatchback.

You guys are aware that Flxible built a dual-opening loading door, right?

Can't say as I've heard that before. Makes sense though that somebody would have. How about the "clamshell hearses"? What years and makes?
