  • Production figures?

    Hello all!

I've been curious ever since I got my coach, did Miller-Meteor, Superior, Eureka, ETC, keep any production figures of the coaches that were built? It seems to me there should be some info somewhere as to how many ambulances, traditional landau, limo, etc were built by a coach builder for a given year. I mean they gotta know what left the plant right?

Any ideas where this information could be obtained, if its even available at all? It would be so amazing to be able to find out this info. Thanks for any help in advance guys!

Tom McPherson & Walt McCall have dedicated their professions as authors to hearses & ambulances. Depending on the coachbuilder their records ranged from excellent to non-existent. Superior kept the best records, in the book "Superior, The Complete History" everything is broke down by year, then all the specific models, & even breaks it up between Cadillac & Pontiac models.
The "Miller-Meteor, The Complete Illustrated History" is full of information, but NO production numbers. Reason for this? When M-M closed the Lima, Ohio facility... Most all records went into dumpsters except for what a few people were able to cling to through the years.
I also own the Eureka book but haven't opened it yet. I can tell you that there have been recent developments with Eureka facts, figures, and even where each coach originally went when sold. I have seen it in person, it's a handwritten ledger that was used by Eureka for years & they recorded each coaches' serial numbers & destination. This surfaced last year I believe so whatever info the Eureka book is lacking can be accounted for. Don't remember the year span this ledger covers... however it was a thick binder.

NOTE: All these books are available for purchase, but most have been out-of-print for YEARS so your only hope usually is Ebay or Amazon... and they are VERY pricey. I will say they are well worth the money though & highly recommend also finding a copy of "the black book" by the same authors... most everyone on here has a copy. It is a more general but excellent guide to all coaches from 1900 - 1973.
