  • Cotner Bevington info

Does anyone know the fate of CB? Like who took them over? Is there a mother company that is still in existence? What I really need to know is who, if anyone, might have records on my '62 Pontiac Star Chief made by Cotner Bevington.

Cotner-Bevington, Oldsmobile, Ambulance, Hearse, Waldo J. Cotner, Robert Bevington, Blytheville, Oldsmobile Super 88, Olds 98, cowl and chassis, Seville, commercial glass, Funeral Coach

Do you have (or have read) the Miller Meteor book?

So Divco-Wayne Corp. was acquired by Boise-Cascade, Inc. and as far as I have been able to tell, that is where the company's ownership ends. I cant seem to find anything even remotely helpful about them. I also have not seen anything about CB making a Pontiac. Granted any research I have done so far on this has only taken place over this last week.
And no, i have not read or looked at that book

Glanced through book. Doesn't appear to have any mention of your coach. There are a mere handful of photos provided from '59-'64, when CB was acquired.

Any mention in the book on the last owners of the companies are/were? Or do you figure I am just shit out of luck on this one?

I'll ask Dee if I can look through the coach book she has. There maybe some info to be had in there.

Concentrating on company info you're grasping for straws - tremendous longshot at best. Miller Meteor records simply do not exist. Wouldn't quite say that you're SOL as you have the coach and a working mind. Ultimately, you may find the answers you seek after perseverance and due diligence tracking the coach back to the original owner or finding a CB employee who recalls working on that coach.

I'll check into another avenue as well.

Actually with the car I got a board that has the original registration attached to it as well as the second and third. So I could call those funeral homes and see if anyone is still alive.

From Paul Steinberg, who owns a '62 CB Chevy ambulance (below):

"It appears to have been built out of a station wagon with the roof panel raised, and the rear door added, just like my Chevy. So far, I know that they built this "style" on Chevrolet and Oldsmobile wagon chassis starting in 1961, and Chevrolet and Pontiac in 1962. I have yet to find any 1963 or 1964 examples."

                      That's a cool ambulance.

I called the original mortuary that owned the car. The lady who answered thought it was "really cool" that i have a piece of the home's history. Unfortunately ownership of the home has recently (in the past year) changed hands and they don't have the history from that far back. They did say if I mailed them a letter addressed to the formwr owner that they would forward it to him. So I am going to do that. His parents started the mortuary back in the 50's so he may have pictures and such.

No I haven't. I have a couple concerns to clear up before i try that. "Loose" ends as it were. If you have some free time during the day sometime and want to come over let me know.
