  • !~ New Hearse Owner From Arizona ~!

well scored this gem out of tucson arizona at a buddy's yard! I'm a K5 Blazer nut but always have had a sweet spot for old caddy's My wife has a morbid side and loves old hearse's so I decided to go on the hunt for one a couple years back. We both would have killed for a 59-60 but our second most fav is 63-64. So i know the biggest two couch builders were Miller meator and S&S is this correct?
I also noticed this hearse has more windows and does not have the bars on the back like i see on most coaches. Forgive my lack of knowledge about these I'm a 73-87 chevy truck nut I know an absurd amount about them not too hip on hearse's

We also have a 1964 sedan deville I will be using a few parts from. Correct me if im wrong but this one in the pic is a 63 which means it has the 390 in it correct? my 64 has a tired 429.

well all the info the better guys thanks for the help id love to hear some feed back and thoughts on my new ride! and let me know if any of you guys need parts off my 64 sedan deville!

What yard did that come out of? I'm also in Tucson, and am dying to know. Your 63 came with the 390. Good running engine.

Woah! You're lucky this snuck by pyro...right in his hometown.

This is an odd coach for sure. First off, it is a Superior limo style (term when not closed rear portion with landau irons). The little fresh air vent on the driver's quarter tips off that this was a combination (hearse and ambulance). Rear interior looks like it should had jump seats originally which confirms combination. Here's where the odd factor comes in~

Vast majority of limo style Superiors were also Royale, meaning quarter windows out back. You have a more 'formal' Sovereign (no windows on D pillars) version of a limo style. I've only ever seen two others around this vintage. Sovereigns also had a smaller rear loading door glass which this coach has. Weird that it has side windows but not out back eh?

So in full you have a '63 Superior limo style Sovereign in combination form. Or maybe that's '63 Superior Sovereign limo style in combination form.

'62 was the last "true" 390. Although '63 had a 390, it was an all new engine based on '64's 429 block, just with smaller displacement, which was increased after one year.

Cool piece. Welcome to the NHAA! Lots of good people, info, and parts around here if you need 'em.

Might want to see if you can meet Russ (pyro) on your retrieval jaunt. He has a '63 Superior Landaulet Royale endloader.

Commercial chassis had leaf springs for the added weight.

Sail panels between quarters and rear loading door are fiberglass on a Superior. Sometimes tops of doors are as well.

Casket (not coffin) looks like typical low end cardboard dealio with floral print.

The Commercial Chassis used leaf springs, and they are probably cracked. Get in there and inspect dead center of the leafs, where the shock mount plate is. Also, Superior used fiberglass to give the rear of the coach its beautiful lines. Mine is faded too.

Who cares? You don't have an S&S or a Miller Meteor. Yours is a Superior. The other of the big four is Eureka, which lasted through '64. Each has their own following.

Casket has four sides. Coffin has six.
