it took off like a fucking missle I went from 60 to 150 faster than i could remember to breath, and from what I was told, the front wheel wasn't even on asphalt for a half mile. I rode it back home at a safe 45 mph, parked it and sold it without ever getting on it again.
I built a '67 XLCH from a box some years ago.. Laced a 21' rim on mechanical front hub and 16' on rear.. solo seat.. drag bars..no front fender.. flat fender rear turned out good... older sporty so shift on the right and brake on left..kinda fucked if not used to it... anyway .. got all done and rode it for about 2 weeks got it all settled in... Pulled out of the bar and pulled the wick way out in first and slammed second.... It immediately stood up and got it bars right in my face.... so stunned I couldnt even let up on it... Everyone said it was perfect... and I said cool.. went home parked it..changed my shorts and wrote the classified.....
Hey Chris, you ever ridden an older bike? A ironhead specifically I should say?
You must do this. You will quickly understand what I mean when I say it feels like you are trying to tame a wild horse when you ride it. There's no cushion between your dick and the power. It's a truely religious experience.......
Oh, BTW, I'm going to ride up to see Pauly either friday or saturday, for a more experienced opinion and some pricing for the next wave of work, lemme know if you want to cruise that way with me if you have time.
I can probably make that ride with you - not sure what is going on this weekend, but I can throw a couple hours in there to ride. I need to talk to Pauly anyways about his site that we are doing, so perfect excuse.
I had that '78 GS1000 that was pretty damned interesting to ride - imagine all the power (plus some) of that zx6r you had, but put it on a 30 year old chassis with zero aerodynamics - that thing was a trip and a half, I managed once to run it down 85S towards Atlanta never lifting off the throttle till I got about 2 miles from my exit and had the speedo buried for the better part of 15 minutes (it stopped at 150). Come to think about it, that was about 2 weeks before I bought my Harley (which will do exactly 113 down hill with a tail wind).
I'd love to ride an old ironhead - I'd probably prefer it. I told Nikki that I'd ultimately like to have some rattletrap piece of shit that I just ride around local that more than 20 minutes of road will turn your butt cheeks purple from bruising - and then a nice/reliable/comfortable bike that I can ride to California if I wanted. You could ride a rigid cross country, but to me that doesn't make you a badass - it makes you an idiot with no sense.
THIS is pretty much what I wanna see in the next few weeks. This one in particular has the bolt on rigid rear. God it's the epidemy of sexiness..........

love it.
now if it were mine i'd like a little more rake to the front. not much just a little bit more.
I had a 78 GS1000 Zoomsuki.... Wrapped it around the front of '71 Torino....It was an experience to ride...I also laid it done twice....It did slide nice on its side but didn't throw near as many sparks as my Harley.. You haven't lived till you had sparks shootin' at your nuts slidin' down the asphalt at 50 mph... WEEEEEEEEEEE
