  • Thank you Ganci

For comming to my comedic aid as I stood on the side of killian hill road with a dead Harley. And for pointing out much to everyones amusement how I love doing things the hard way

I'm going through separation anxiety. You realize that bike hasn't been out of my sight for more than a few hours or so in almost 2 years.

I'm actively trying to find another one around the same year model. If anyone happens to come acroos another early to mid 70's Ironhead Sportster, lemme know. The idea is to have 1 vintage chopper, and 1 vintage bobber.

It wouldn't be the first of a dozen times we've been on the side of the road broke down - so no worries.

        Lamont Sanford...

Yeah, so my bill so far is right at 500 bucks and climbing. Battery shot. Generator shot. Replacing both, but going ahead and getting the 1 wire generator upgrade. Got jeff going through the rear end to figure out that suspension issue too. But hey, they said it runs GREAT.

Woot. Found bike No.2. 1968 Ironhead, mageto/Kicker. My dad's funny tho. He says the kicker will probably end up being mine. Something about if you don't have the cylinders set right when you kick it off, when the bike fires up they have a nasty tendancy to try to throw you over the handlebars. And he's "too old for that shit".

Your Dad ain't no dummy...when you kick one those be fully committed to kick it thru and when you do keep the kicker all the way down till it engine stops or it starts... It will free wheel there... I have also seen them start by turning on the key after sitting for a beer break... Damndest thing I ever saw and wouldn't believe it till I saw it.... Nice scoot tho... shifter on the right...if not converted...

NO SHIT! I just watched an online video of that shit happening to some dude, and his foot slipped off as it fired up and the damn kick came back up and nailed the fuck out of the back of his leg, he and the bike fell over......my god it looked painful.

15 years ago when still 135#, I was the master at the two-footed kick on my mag/kick only '59 FLF for a couple reasons:

I simply didn't have enough ass. More importantly, I was prepared to take flight over the handlebars in a balanced position - which only happened a couple times. Kicker slipping through and hyper extending leg is perhaps more painful. Then there is the odd time everything is soaking wet and you can't keep your foot on the damn kicker and it slaps back. Repeatedly. Always viewed starting it as an art form.

Glad your bike is getting taken care of. Mag/kick only bikes are the shit.

Used to roll mine over easy with the kick-start until feeling it come up on compression stroke, then bring the kicker all the way up & lay into it hard! Best way to avoid it kicking back on you...

Best way is to make sure Mag is in good condition and properly adjusted...Big Blocks kick alot easier than a Sporty. Less compression and longer stroke...

Eh. I went and looked at the bike today, and that guy was nuts. Bike wasn't worth anywhere near the asking price.

Bike no.2 is a differnt type. It's a mutt bike. 1952 Harley rigid frame, raked and stretched, Triumph 750 motor out of a 71 bonneville. kick start only. But it looks badass.

PM me your spending range... I can probably shake the bushes for a Sporty earlier the better I take it.. as long as it's an Ironhead...?
