  • Need car show input quick.

So I just talked to JD who is putting on the Skunk River rally on the 15th that we were a sponsor for. I say were because we are now doing the car show completely and I wanted to get everyones input on categories and things we know we don't like about some car shows.

The initial thought was to do a 1,2,3rd place trophy and a 'people's choice' trophy for 3 categories:

    Stock
    Modified
    Pro-Car

Not sure if we should enforce a age limit (minimum age) or not - or maybe even phrase it 'pre-66 encouraged' so that people at least realize that their '72 mustang might not win no matter how nicely restored it is.

For the bike show, they are doing 'stock, modified, metric, antique' and I think a people's choice for each of those as well. Pauly and Yankee Jim are organizing that and Mailman will be one of the judges. Not sure if they are being too strict about what is stock and what is modified.

So far with stock, modified, and pro car there will be 12 trophies 1st 2nd 3rd and peeps choice. There is probably room for and antique class of pre muscle car era vehicles. That would take it to 16 trophies.
If more than 20 trophies are given out it becomes stupid. It's like fuck just give everyone a trophy then so no one feels left out and I hate that, it makes winning feel cheap and meaningless.

    So I say ....

    Stock 1st 2nd 3rd peep choice
    Modified 1st 2nd 3rd peep choice
    Procar 1st 2nd 3rd peep choice
    Antique 1st 2nd 3rd peep choice

maybe only give out trophies for first place - use ribbons for others to cut costs?

Dad took the '69 to a local charity car show last week and they had a raffle drawing that I thought was a pretty cool idea and it didn't cost the promoters much at all. Basically what they did was take a roll of tickets and wrapped them all the way around your vehicle one time (twice for bikes). How ever many tickets it took to go around your car only cost you $20 (320 tickets to go around my '69 M&M). It was a single ticket drawing and the winner got 1/2 the money that was paid in for tickets, and the other 1/2 went to the charity they were raising money for. Thought it was a pretty cool & cheap way to have a fun raffle with a decent pay out.

          Procar 1st 2nd 3rd peep choice
          Antique 1st 2nd 3rd peep choice
          sounds pretty good

eh, my car is too new so i'll be riding the Harley, which is with Pauly right now getting new tires and oil and trans oil, and whatever else is worn out or broken ( aside from the tag bracket). do whatever it is you want to do.

I would drop the pro car category because they are either stock or modified or antique, they win on their on merits or they don't.
An age limit somewhere in the late seventies should keep out the tuner set and bring in most older cars that are worthwhile.
OK maybe a peoples choice on the procars....

The 50/50 raffles here are usually done by car length. Last year I got beat out by a 6 door dually, guess it's time to drag out the digger.

I've always thought the only one that matters is the people choice. I like most can't afford to restore a car much less have a fully restored dailey driver.
My only suggestion is no trailer queens. If it doesn t show up own its own, it shouldn't win, unless its not legal to be on the street.

                        So how about this:

                        Stock 1st, 2nd, 3rd
                        Modified 1st, 2nd, 3rd
                        Antique 1st, 2nd, 3rd
And a peoples choice in each as well.

                        Works for me.
We need a year limit on the Antique category, something pre-muscle car.

The people's choice award has a $250 pay out (donated by someone), so there is only going to be one of those. And the dudes who are responsible 'overall' are kinda muscle car guys, so I figured like this:

                          Best Beater
                          Long Haul
                          Best Club
                          Best Stock
                          Best Modified
                          Best Pro-Car
                          Peoples Choice ($250)
And the 'Dead Ends' award - which will be presented by our club to whatever we want.

Anything is welcome that drove in under it's own power - NO TRAILER QUEENS! - only pre-70 and pro-cars are eligible to win awards though.
