  • Seen this hearse?

First off, I'm new to this forum, but I've been browsing it for a little while so I'm somewhat familiar with how things are...seems like a good group. I actually live down in Albuquerque, NM, but thats not too far from Denver so IF I get a hearse I could probably make it up every once in a while. I'm 17. Anyways, I've been looking into getting a hearse and I found one in the Denver area on craigslist. Here's the ad: http://denver.craigslist.org/car/430057618.html
I was curious if anyone in the Denver area (alot of you seem to be) has seen this one running around. For all I know the owner is probably on this sight. Just trying to get some info on it, anything would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hey there Kevin,

I have indeed seen the car in person a few years back and here is what I can tell you...I have talked to the guy who owns it in the past and he is a friendly guy. Not trying to be a jerk but I am not sure his car is worth that much though, which is why it has not sold and has been for sale for quite some time now. I'll just kinda give you the good and the bad...

The engine, at the time, was in passable shape. The paint was a semi gloss job with the overlay flames. Even a few years ago when it was fresh the pinstriping on the flames was showing wear, and the semi gloss was not really a professional job by any means. There was a LOT of rust on the hood that should have been attended to before painting it.

It has, if I remember the model correctly, he has a Federal 28 as a siren, a hell of a good siren.

The thing is this, and I am not trying to talk shit about the guy, but there are two main things that make this car worth a LOT less than he is asking. First off, he won it for free at a raffle at a local night club. The vehicle was made to look good for the giveaway, but the work done on it was substandard and only superficial.

I also think he is not really aware of the real value of hearses. Yes they are rare, but just because they are uncommon doesn't mean that they are really worth more, especially with rust and old engines. It is NOT a $2700 car, in any way shape or form. For that price you could get a whole lot better condition if you waited around for a deal. I would say his ride is worth $1500, and that is pretty much the max. Early 70's Superiors are very VERY common as well, if this was say a 65 Superior, or a 3-way MAYBE, but just being a run of the mill endloader makes it far too common to justify the price.

That being said, if you are looking for a hearse then let me know. I am not personally selling anything, but if you have money ready to go, I will always help people find hearses for sale as I tend to always know about them. Not trying to sound dickesh, but I always have to qualify that as a TON of people want hearses, but sellers will rarely wait around for payment plans, so it is better to have even a small amount of cash (a few hundred or so) right up front.

    Take care man -Zachary

Yah I didn't really plan on spending $2700 on that particular one, not at all. I have a couple thousand in hand so as you said, if I'm patient (what is this patience thing anyways???) I can probably find a nicer one. On the other hand, I mentioned the whole hearse idea to my parents a couple days ago (I'm 17...still at the house) and the idea of having a hearse in the driveway didn't seem to strike them as something that was particularly interesting. Sooo I may have to hold off until this summer when I can move out of here and into another place in which I can wierd out my neighbors with my hearse. Thats half the fun though, right? I definately appreciate all the info though, who knows, the guy might still have it this summer and be willing to get rid of it real cheap. I was hoping to get this thing before it got too cold because my current form of transportation is a motorcycle, I guess it might be a cold winter. Anyways, we'll see what happens. I appreciate all your help, I've learned alot about hearses just by reading through the forums and your website. If this guy wanted a grand for his hearse I might jump on it and deal with my parents later but I have a feeling he won't stoop down to that reasonable of a price. Thanks again, I'll definately let you know when I'm looking, you seem to have your ABC's down about hearses.

Hmmmm, (30 minutes after my last post, I'm a dumbass) I just swung the idea around my dad's head and he doesn't seem so put off by it after all. I think its my mom that is more skeptical, but she's the mom so her vote is minor. I might be looking into this hearse now after all. In emails back and forth, the guy with the '71 superior says "Right now, it's actually running better than it ever has since I've owned it. The engine is a V8 472, 7.7L" and later "Regarding price, we could certainly negotiate to see if we can come to a figure agreeable to both of us." I might toss this guy an offer for $1500 and see what he says. You said that he won it, so I dont see where he is loosing. Otherwise, if you know of any others in the vicinity of $1500 - $2000 let me know, thanks!

Nope, he turned that offer down. Oh well, I'm not sure that I much care for the limosine style anyways.

Good luck finding a cool coach Kevin. It is lots of fun, I am even in the works of getting my second one.. HOPEFULLY. I am extremely new to the hearse scene. But, I feel as though I fit in and I enjoy the looks that people give me when I drive my big ugly beauty. Hell, I even enjoy the fact that my neighbors now think I am a devil worshiper since I own a hearse. Oh and did I mention the missionaries don't come to the door anymore. For that matter neither do solicitors or neighbor kids! GO ME!!!!

Yeah, I like the hearse scene from what I can tell. Its good to be different in a world of people that don't see the benifits of doing so. They don't realize that the weird looks they give you and their stupid comments are actually half the fun, as long as you can view them in a certain light. I'm thinking the hearse will be sort of like a filter, quickly filtering out the sort of people that I don't care to be around anyways. I'm looking forward to it, but it might be a while.

Ehhh I think I'll leave the parents at home, they probably wouldn't come anyways. I'll definately check in once in a while to see if anybody is letting their hearse go.

I think you are the closest hearse club to me, so do you mind if I join? At least until I find enough people to make a hearse club in the great state of Morons.... I mean Mormons.

Ok, cool... we do car shows all summer long. I hope to do some hearse fun runs next summer and from what I hear.. the 55 I am getting from Colorado Springs runs great, so I could drive out there a few times. I also want to go to the casket racing event held every year and be in the parade with you guys.

Are there fee's? Any window stickers to fly the club I am in or anything special like that?

I know how you feel msconduct, I have owned Elvira for over thirty years and havent been able to find enough people here in Wyoming to form any sort of group interested in hearses, I have joined a couple of clubs from far away. It is almost impossible to join in on any of the activities, due to work schedules and non corresponding vacation times. But we do the best we can to keep up on the events across the country anyway....lol

Looks like he put the hearse on ebay. We'll see what he gets for it.

No fees or anything like that, just show up and have a good time. I would suggest hitting us up for Hearsecon next May, that's going to be the best time! I'll save a couple of window stickers for you!

Or any other time you feel like joining us, send me your email and I will add you both to the mailing list. Utah and Wyoming aren't TOO far!
