What a great day it was for a drive. Had one of the neighbors stop over and check it out. He knew I had an old caddy, but didn't know it was a hearse. Seemed quite thrilled to see it as he mentioned that hot rods are a dime a dozen but that you don't see a good old hearse out on the road much. And as usual I had a lot of people that smiled and kids that gave me the thumbs up as I drove around with the funeral flags on the hood. Yep, I am hoping things stay running well so I can get back out on the strip. Driving it up to the City Club tonight to start things off.

Indeed we do. I drove mine all over the place, literally. From Livonia to Waterford then to Pontiac, Royal Oak, Detroit, Cork Town, Lincoln park, back to Royal Oak, and then finally back home and that was the night before last night! Last night was just to my grandma's and then City Club.

I am having problems with the electrical for the front drivers side turn signal though. When I put a replacement bulb in, it stays lite and doesn't flash when the indicator is on. When I took the bulb out and touched both prongs together, the back turn signal worked but the front passenger side blinked with it. When I turn on the headlights, the drivers side back turn signal just stays on without blinking. Thinking I might have to see if I can run some direct wiring from the fusebox to the turn signal. I need that thing working to have it totally road legal. Any ideas? I know wiring problems can be a total bitch.
Oh and today I am going to herculiner the top where the vinyl used to be. Its all been sanded and ready to coat. I think this stuff will protect better than the vinyl will.

I'm havin' nine kindsa' hell with the brake lights on the Lincoln too. I think I've got it narrowed down to the brake switch, just gotta' contort myself up under the dash.
I was worried that the minor body damage on the drivers rear quarter that orginally broke out the lense had damaged the tail light/turn signal wiring. I just cleaned all my contacts, the pig tails inside the light sockets, and adjusted one of the socket contacts, and boom, the tail lights worked again.....for awhile. Got pissed, and pumped on the brakes and had brake lights every time......
Last week I just shot the switch with WD40 and once again, we had brake lights......
I got lucky, I sure didn't want to track down any more wiring than I had too.
Good Luck on that turn signal/marker light!

Damn, always something to ruin the day. Started taking off with the hearse to a buddy's house and a loud squeal occurred and then a little smoke billowed out of the engine compartment. Luckily I was just leaving the house so I turned back and opened it up back at the house to find out that 2 belts totally snapped and were eaten. A 3rd was getting to that point as well. I am hoping not, but I fear something froze up like the water pump. When it cools down I will have to see if I can move any of the wheels. Be time to take it to the mechanic again :/
And I also had just put two coats of Herculiner on the roof of it. It looks good and not drippy like you might get when you get it sprayed on at some joint.

Parts
I found someone on e-bay that is parting out a 72. I already won the pair of turn signals with the sockets attached to them. She is also going to sell me the rear backup lights, a blower motor that is still working, a pair of landau bars, and probably a rearview mirror that I needed. I can get a lot of this for one bundled price.
I also managed to get one of the belts back on the air compressor, fan, and water pump systems so I can transport it to the mechanic without worry of overheating. It was the a/c compressor that went out on it, not the generator. The wheel on it is definitely seized up so he will rebuild it and check out a knock that I had when I left the mechanic to pick the car up. The girl on ebay says she is having the same issue where you hear it and it gets faster as the car picks up speed. Its coming from below and you can slightly feel it, so I suspect either something on the driveshaft or one of the steering components.
