  • Getting Morticia ready for Asheville!

Decided that I didn't want to wait until the weekend before to start doing work on Morticia to get her ready.

Went to Summit this weekend, bought a few things.

    B&M transkit
    Hughes trans pump

External electric fuel pump (105 gph) http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g3136-2
    Wiring harness with relay
    Regulator
    Gauge
6' of braided hose and fittings.

Upon getting home though and doing some research, I see that the best place to put an electric pump is towards the tank, so I guess I'll need to get more fuel line before running it. Probably also going to drop the tank and fix the f'n fuel sending unit.

I have work to do as well. My brake light keeps coming on and I have been to lazy to find out why.

I'm going to let Billy take a shot at it. Price is reasonable and he's willing to warranty it (the good ole - 'you will bring your ass to wherever I'm broken down at and fix this mofugger!' clause).

Transmission is one thing I worry about on this trip. I am still running the original, never been rebuilt 1969 unit.
It has given me no troubles so far but who knows.

You don't really flog on your car though - as long as it has fluid that hasn't also been in there since Nixon, you're probably good.

So it begins - got her moved into the middle of the garage (creative jack and jackstand work), up on 4 stands with access to pretty much everything. I included a little seen beautiful part - my custom driveshafts and exhaust. Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have cut the exhaust brackets to get the exhaust out so I can pull the transmission, but that shouldn't be too big of a deal.

Exhaust is out, transmission is out, driveshafts are out. Going to put in an order tomorrow for the rest of the parts I need for the fuel system. Taking the transmission to Billy tomorrow to get started.

What was wrong with it? Was it slipping?

Been slipping for a lonnnnnnnnng time. The fact I can still destroy tires at will is a miracle. =)

Billy sent me some pics of the breakdown - you can definitely see some burn marks for first gear.

So I go to put in the fresh built transmission and fancy new torque converter, I get the new Energy Suspension transmission mount, line it up against the old one (pictured here - it was already messed up, I pulled it apart to see if there was a base that I could attach to). Yup, not a single thing lines up.

Soooooo I need to get a new mount. Any ideas? This thing is way bigger than any other I've seen.
