ummm....those are just vents to help circulate air through the roof right?.
Thats not uncommon AT ALL. Hince why we warn people when they say they are taking their top off. Well, or we appaud them and start thowing out 1 dollar bills....depends upon the situation i guess...lol.

Holy shit! I thought mine was bad.
I guess I would pour about 4 gallons of rust stopper on it and a 1 inch thick layer of "kitty hair" over the top.

interior is perfect im gonna throw a band aid on it until I get the cash to rhino line the top.
I'm gonna patch the holes and fiberglass em then spry bomb it until my body guy has the tim to cut it up and patch it up

I would put a skin on it then crinkle it for a cheaper fix, but i really don't know what would stick to that much rust over a period of time,(there has to be some kind of harding epoxy type stuff that would cover the rust then you could crinkle and i doubt it would be noticed-if smoothed-)( i get this thought from the stuff that levels floors then you can put down tile-not sure what the stuff is or if/how it would work but do you get my idea?)a metal shop could form another roof then have it crinkled -you would need to cut off the top whole so another piece could be made from the pattern. We have a auto shop and dabble with body work on our own cars , our good friend has a metal shop and he says he can form or make any metal piece, so there has to be one in your area who can do the same. Mine has the crinkle top and a few small places need it again. i also noticed on mine the crinkle is the whole length of the car on pictures of other 73's it started behind the front seat area. but there is very little rust where crinkle meets car around the trim.

Thats a big sheet of metal to try to hand fabricate.

may need to section and weld if the shop don't have a lift trolley.. What is the best and cheapest way to replace a roof? could you find a wrecked one with a good roof and cut it off and weld it on ? Anything other then a crinkle top will be rusted underneath the top?? How do you patch bad places in the crinkle top? i have a 2 inch square between the doors that has just flaked? off. I'm only crazy part of the time!!!

i would sand the crinkle down and either repaint with crinkle or just go with flat black paint.

Sorry for the stupid question... But what is crinkle?

Don't feel bad, my top looks like that too. But amazingly, my interior is in fairly good condition. The headliner is the only thing on my car I would consider in good condition.

Crinkle is crinkle paint. Instead of your top being vinyl or painted sheet metal, it is crinkle paint. It looks like sand paper or stucco or faux vinyl.
Mine is crinkle, I like it, but it's hard to keep clean & finding some one to repaint it is near impossible.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Is it something like Rhino then?

Similar, but rhino or linex liners have polyurethanes in them to make them water resistant, damage resistant & usually glossy.
Crinkle is paint & in most cases oil to make it crinkle up.

If you go with rhino or linex, make sure the person spraying is good at it. I've seen many that "pop" off after a year or two. They seperate from the roof, you get a bubble & then it pops & now you have a hole in the liner down to the raw steel underneath.
